Slow response from the site has been sporadic. Sometimes it's good, other times it might be a little slow.

When I am going to visit here a while and click on many topics I use 4.78. If I'm making a brief visit I go with 7.02. I am still curious though, and waiting for someone to come up with an answer that contains the solution. So far it's all speculation.

Hi,
Now there is borwser stickiness in netscape communicator.
What is going on here this is not good.
Ther browser stickiness that I am talking about is it takes netscape communicator about two seconds to do any thing after I click on anything in the fourms.
Is this just a problem that I am having.

I am frequently experiencing an intermittent problem loading this forum and can't pin down the chain of events.

Sometimes if I had previously opened the forum, then closed that tab (or window if in separate window), then tried to open forum in a new tab or window, it won't load. Other times, I'm in the forum moving around and suddenly it stops responding to various actions: selecting another thread or message, previewing or submitting a reply, etc.

I know one thing for sure: the consistent fix is to quit Netscape and re-launch.

My University's proxy server slows down many sites. I do not notice any unusual, current problem at SillyDog. At some point in the past, there were problems in accessing the database, probably due to the switchover of content to the new servers.

How's this for irony:

When I got the email notifying me that there was a new response to this thread, when I clicked on the link it wouldn't load. Browsing to all other sites was fine.

Once again, had to quit Netscape, relaunch, click same link and here I am.

Is it possibly something with how this site caches itself? Does that even make sense? Probably not; I don't really know what I'm talking about.

Hi frednow

This is not a new twist. From the time you load Netscape and link to the site... from this point on, if the "cursor lock" bug is set, there is NO re-entry to the site. Not from within the forum, from bookmarks or from email via an email link. We can only HOPE for a timely solution.

I currently, at this moment, can NOT access SillyDog with Netscape 7.02. Netscape 7.02 can access other sites, and IE can access SillyDog. Netscape 4.79 can access SillyDog. Shutting down and re-starting Netscape did not help. I hope that this is a temporary issue!

[Edit: After several minutes, NS 7 can again access the SD site. Weird!]

I have no ideas, sorry.
Did you shut down Netscape 7 completely? (checked Windows Task Manager by Ctrl + Alt + Del?)

Thanks for reporting.

It has been a while since I visited your site/forum. Sorry to see you were having problems for a while (presumably fixed) and happy to see your site still up and doing well.

I came in to get the latest version of Netscape to put on a CD for my students. Many of them are limited to dial-up and this could mean the difference between them using the latest version of Netscape and using whichever version of IE came with their Windows install.

I also list where I got the install file from, so you may see some new users periodically.

Best of luck to you! :)

Every so often (like right this second) the SillyDog site seems to deliver its content in a sporadic manner, i.e., download speed may be zero for several seconds, shoot up to a few hundred kilobits per second (kbs), and then drop back down to zero. It may take each page a minute or two to load under these conditions. Other sites do not have this problem. At other times, this problem at SillyDog is not evident.

This problem is more evident now that I have a broadband connection at home. It was harder to see this problem when using a modem or using my office system behind a firewall (which sometimes slows things down in itself).
