On Screen Resolutions

Postby Blackbeard » Sat 04 Dec, 2004 6:03 pm

I recently reformatted, reinstalled and cleaned up a friends P4 System which was crawling at snails pace (despite total absence of spyware etc). The reinstall solved the speed problem and everything is 100% better than before - however there exists a problem with the monitor/graphics card.....................................

The system has a 15" Samsung monitor running on samsung drivers by defauly and an inbuilt Intel video driver (Part of one of theose Intel all in one build-boards).............. I disabled this driver and installed independently a GeForce FX4400 (64Mb) Graphics card as my friend wanted to do some gaming (When will Intel get the message????)................

Things work pretty good but the one porblem has to do with the desktop and what I assumed was a refresh rte problem...............

The Icons display on the desktop normally but whenever you open an application you get a 'popping' effect on the desktop This is something I wuldn't have expected and frankly am puzzled as to resolving it... I have tried adjusting screen refresh rates but without success............

My only guess is that it's down to te samsung driver or software that accompanies the monitor...................... I have had GeForce Cards on my machines for years but never have had a nything like this occur!!!!!

Personally, i don't think its a driver problem... but:

Did you download the drivers off the internet or did you use the software taht came with the machine? I know when i did a format and a re-instalation on my Windows Millenium machine, i had to get drivers off the internet, as for some unknown reason my software wouldn't giv me the correct drivers. hope that helps a bit

I used the drivers that came with the monitor and the latest drivers for the GeForce Card (The Detonators) from the net!!!!!

I'm sure I probably don't even need drivers for the monitor and i's probab;y because of the fact that I installed them at all that I have the problem..... I'm sure the GeForce alone would be quite sufficient!!!!

I was just wondering if anyone had experienced something like this and if they resolved it - how so!!!!

But thanks for the comments keith

Hello. no prob at all. sorry i wasn't a whole lot of hel;p. One more stab in the dark though. If it is driver related, which i am convinced it may not be, are the 2 video cards conflicting with eachother? You can check for that in the device manager.

I know where you're coming from but No!!!! The Monitor is installed as a Samsung as one should suppose it should be (Under Monitors) and the GeForce under Display Adapters like it should be!!!

I'm goinf to ask my friend to uninstall the Monitor and see if that will fix the problem but the Intel Graphics card that's built into the motheroard had been disabled and the machine should be running off the GeForce Drivers only!!!!!

So that's why I'm confused that the deshtop should behave the way it does.......... I think it might be the Max 'whatever' software that comes with the monitor for 'environment' configuration that could be causing all the trouble so I guess I'll uninstall that too and just let the monitor pick up the most suitable system driver and let it run off the GeForce Card................. Hopefully that'll do it!!!!!
