Opening a page in a new tab with Javascript

Postby pecoes » Mon 13 Oct, 2003 1:34 am

Hi there,

I'm using Firebird 0.6.1 and I'm looking for a Javascript method to open a page in a new tab.

the reason:
I have a bunch of bookmarklets in my "toolbar folder" that I'm really fond of (search with Google, check my Webmail, lookup in Merriam-Webster's etc.)
Currently I'm using them by: 1.) opening a new tab and 2.) clicking on the bookmark. That's just silly.

Does anyone have a tip for me? Thx!

Everything becomes interesting if you look at it long enough. Sometimes that's a good thing.

To my understanding, there's no way to make a link open in a new tab either via HTML or JavaScript. (I could be wrong.)
The Tab browsing was designed for users who want to organised their opened pages, and should not be controlled by web designers.

hey, thanx for the fast reply.

[irony] Maybe I'll just have to wait for MS to come to the rescue. Once they invent "tabbed browsing" the W3C will introduce it to the DOM. [/irony]

Hello, I'm back. I found something to solve my problem. There's an extension for Firebird:

http://white.sakura.ne.jp/~piro/xul/_tabextensions.html.en

which adds "Always open bookmarks in new tab" and a million other features to tabbed browsing. Very nice. Very nice, indeed
