OpenOffice.org has released the first beta version of OpenOffice for Mac OS X. Unlike version 2.x, this version doesn't need to run in the X11 environment, OpenOffice 3.0 Beta runs natively on the Mac. Documents ([tt].docx[/tt], [tt].xlsx[/tt]. and [tt].pptx[/tt]) created by Office 2007 (for PC) or Office 2008 (for Mac) are also supported.
