Opera Software has released the shipping version of the web browser software, Opera 12.

Opera 12 adds the “Do Not Track” feature and fixes six security vulnerabilities. With the “Do Not Track” feature, users can activate a setting in the program’s Security preferences asking web sites to not track them. This depends, of course, on web sites honouring this request, but move to implement Do Not Track is gaining momentum as all major browsers now support this.

introduces a new type of browser extension: Speed Dial extensions. Instead of handy thumbnails and links to your top sites, users can embed their Speed Dial with extensions that keep them updated instantly.

Other new features are even faster page loading (claimed by Opera), easy to personalising, redesigned security badges, new APIs for windows and tabs and new web standards support.

With the release of Opera 12, Opera Unite and Opera Website are discontinued and removed by default for new users. Opera recommend all developers to move their solutions to the extensions platform. There's also an experimental hardware acceleration WebGL support in this version.

New web standard supports are: WebRTC, HTML5 Drag and Drop, CSS3 Animations and Transitions, Do-Not-Track and CSS Generated Content for Paged Media.

Opera 12 is available for Mac, Windows, and Linux, and it is available free of charge. Opera 12 browser can be downloaded from Opera website.

It's an innovative browser with a horrible email/newsreader program and an extremely small acceptance among users with the exception of its mobile platform. Along with Delphi, the mobile version of Opera is killer.

It is pretty ridiculous that the developers of Opera want to add new bells and whistles, but cannot be bothered to fix the bugs that have been present at least since Opera 10. Not only that, but they have removed a feature that made Opera even more attractive. I refer to the colour scheme that one could superimpose on any theme that was being used. That is gone in Opera 12. Did they think the colour schemes made Opera too colourful, or what? And why would anyone think that it does not matter if the interface is very hard to read in Mac Opera with a high-res screen because it is too small, and one cannot change the size or type of text in the interface?

If the high-res screen you refer to is Apple 27" LED Cinema Display or Apple Thunderbolt Display (27-inch), I don't see the resolution 2560 by 1440 pixels (109 DPI) is that high at all.
Apple's 11-inch MacBook Air has resolution of 1366 x 768 which gives even higher density at 135 PPI. After all, I have two 27" LED Cinema Displays on my desk.
