Opera 7.22 bug

Postby Phoenix21692 » Sat 15 Nov, 2003 3:40 pm

I found a bug in Opera 7.22 that causes the Welcome to SillyDog701 text on the sillydog.org homepage to display improperly. Does anyone know why this is happening? Note that it occurs when you visit the page sometimes upon opening Opera 7.22 or whenever you access it for the first time on the browser. This has occurred not only on this localized version, but also on the standard English version too! Currently, I'm using Windows 98 Second with Revenge of Mozilla II 2.5.1.

If you are referring to the "Welcome to SillyDog701" moving text on http://sillydog.org/ the Linux version displays the same thing.

I'm not exactly sure that it is a genuine bug, as I do not know what Antony used to cause that text to move in that fashion.

There is, however, a bug in 7.22 Linux.

The User-Agent string for e-mails and newsgroup messages displays:

User-Agent: Opera7.21/Linux M2 build 497

when it should read Opera7.22...

Yes, I was specifically talking about the moving text. I should've mentioned it before. I also noticed that it goes away if you go to another page, like google.com, and then back to the sillydog.org homepage. However, the bug still persists though.

I thought the text might have been Macromedia Flash-enabled, but apparently it's not.

The SillyDog701 moving text is done with simple CSS and JavaScript tricks.
The problem is most likely that Opera won't handle the onLoad attribute again without completely reloading the page.

SillyDog701 does not use any Flash.

Does anyone recall if this bug had occurred in versions 7.21 or earlier?

At least since version 7.x, if not with earlier versions.

FWIW, the main page also appears the same in 7.23 for Linux and Windows.
