Opera 8 Beta 3 denies access to ftp.mozilla.org

Postby Pu7o » Wed 23 Mar, 2005 3:14 pm

it seems that opera has denied their users access to the mozilla main download site, ftp.mozilla.org, as it can be seen in this screenshot

http://kidzilla.planetaclix.pt/opera-nomoz.jpg

while i can access it just fine with firefox

http://kidzilla.planetaclix.pt/moz.jpg

anyone got any idea as to why this is happening?

No problem here with http://kidzilla.planetaclix.pt/moz.jpg
This was done in Opera8 beta3, less than one minute ago.

those were screenshots of what happens, lol

what i meant was Opera Beta 3 refuses to access ftp://ftp.mozilla.org (i.e. the mozilla download location). Probably a way to make users not switch to mozilla.

You might want to go see if the HTTP file server still works. If it does, it would be at http://ftp.mozilla.org instead of ftp://ftp.mozilla.org

If worse comes to worse, just use the AOL mirror instead: ftp://ftp27f.newaol.com
UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040804 Donzilla/0.6PR2 (like Netscape/7.2; wml/1.3)

it seems to work if i select mirrors by hand. i guess opera just wanted to straight-block "the easy access" to ftp.mozilla.org, since thats where nearly everyone downloads from (it's where MoFo's page points to...)

and no http://ftp.mozilla.org, either :(

i just can't believe that opera did something so low!

I am clicking on the links which you provide. The last one gave "site not found" with NS7.2. As for the very first one, you typed http. The links are meaningless if you mean something different.
When I just type ftp.mozilla.org, in Opera8 beta, I got ftp://ftp.mozilla.org
and this:
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/
Name Type Size Time
mirror Directory 7/7/2004 12:00:00 AM
pub Directory 2/10/2005 3:37:00 PM
scarlet File 12/21/2004 2:23:00 PM
welcome.msg MSG File 1 KB 12/27/2004 11:48:00 PM

The pub directory has all the good stuff. At least, this is happening with WinXP.

It was quite a search, since it does not say anywhere, but, after doing a Search, and looking at the properties, it said beta2, eventually. It is build 7483. I think but the build number would mean something to the initiated.
I will look for a new version, but, they sure don't make things easy!
If I can figure this out, I will try beta 3, and, then both of us can yell at them.

ftp://ftp.mozilla.org showed the same list as beta 2. The new build is 7522. Is this a Linux thing. I see many more betas for Linux.
I installed beta3 in a separate folder.
Did you notice that the UI of my last post is slightly different from the earlier one?

I just accessed ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/ fine with Opera 8 Beta 3 (Linux).
There was a slight delay in connecting to it from here though. The error displayed in the first graphic referenced in your starting post, may have been correct, too many were either on the server or trying to connect to it at the same time and you could not get a connection to it.
