Opera M2 mail

Postby Fulvio » Tue 30 Sep, 2003 12:21 pm

I am spending so much time on Netscape/Mozilla that I have had little chance to do anything new with Opera. But M2 mail looks good, and I tried to set up one account at a time, three times. The first two were POP3 accounts, and I got no further than getting "disconnected". Finally, a fourth time, I was asked to authenticate, the password which I entered, and it was not accepted. The same password worked with the ISP webmail or Netscape.
I don't know if M2 got worried about the fact that I used a different SMTP from that provided by the account, but sending mail worked. So, I tried my primary ISP account. I had received mail in Netscape Mail, but it is left on server. M2 says that there is no new mail.
Enough of this. I tried an IMAP account, and, although I had been under the impression that old mail had been removed from server, M2 gave evey piece of mail sent since early 2001, when I first signed up with this service.
I must admit that none of the "Microsoft Updates" e-mails, were downloaded
For those who do not know these e-mails contain a loaded warhead.
My conclusion is that I don't have any idea what is going on. I know that I do not have to keep the "forever" checked, and that this avalanche may be a server situation. Still do not have any idea about the POP3 accounts. If anyone has any idea, please let me know.

The usage of the different SMTP server should not matter.

I encountered one problem where I could not reach a newsgroup server which requires authentication. This worked fine in 7.11, but when I tried it with 7.20 (both under Windows), I kept getting "authentication required" errors each time. Not sure what the problem is.

I could not even get off the ground, but I will try aghain, tomorrow. The information I entered is correct, but I cannot even go past the password.

Hey, Fulvio... how goes it?

I found M2 a very awkward client, indeed. In fact, if you check the statistics on their forum you'll discover that the vast majority of Opera users do NOT use M2.

See my other comments in the M2 thread begun by Wellander.
