Netscape 7 is my recommendation. Why?

Netscape 7 is free. Opera 7 is not.

Netscape 7 is not in beta. Opera 7 is.

Netscape 7 displays no ads. Opera 7 does.

Netscape 7 is built upon open source. Opera 7 is not.

Also . . .

There are special customised version of Netscape 7 on
my website, and also on this website. But not of Opera 7.

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

There is still something good with Opera. It is small (still), although not that small to be fitted into a floppy.
And something bad about it... It supports its own selections of standards.

maybe these information is useful to help you make decision:

1.opera 7 is much smaller (3Mb without Java and 7 Mb with Java),NS 7 is ranging from 8Mb to 30Mb
2.You can install NS 7 on your WIN 2k/XP without having to logon as an administrator account, BUt opera do.
3.Opera will display a ad ,pretty large.
4.Opera is faster , both at start up and loading page. But the difference is not large, high connection speed will even diminish this distance.
5.Opera have more chance to display webpage incompletely.
6.Netscape now have many useful add-ons.
7.NS7 support multi-language display better, Opera will encounter problems when display web-page in Non-English.
8.Opera 7 beta is not stable. Maybe you can try the final version.

It would be lovely if they would care to upgrade Communicator to support these standards!

I'm running an old 4.05 version of communicator, on an old NT4 box - I paid $160 AU to use this back in 1997! The least they could do IMO - is update it to work with standards correctly.

Its a bummer Netscape Communications discontinued Communicator Professional =( All the stuff that comes with 4.05 - it would be so good if it had been continued to be updated - Netcaster and all that!

Postby Ghostman 1 » Tue 19 Nov, 2002 7:24 pm

Netscape 7 is way better than ANY Opera, If you like all those ads ,Then By all means use Opera.. But I would say that Netscape & Mozilla are the Two
best browsers OUT...

I agree

Postby jksteinhauer » Wed 20 Nov, 2002 10:55 pm

Try doing some of the things with Opera that you can do easily with Netscape 7, like install a damn plug-in, lol. What a chore!
I agree also about continuing Communicator series. I find many advantages still in using Communicator over 7 although I've made a habit of going with 7.
Netcaster was way cool, can we have it back please, somebody ask us before you do away with something next time! sheesh!
When's 7 going to automatically check for mail and notify **ding-dong** at opening like Communicator does?

You're saying installing plugins with Netscape 7.0 and Mozilla isn't a chore? Look at the 50-odd I've got documented here (and look at the other 2 pages), and tell me some of them aren't a chore to install...

Well, holy moly! I'm sure some of those buggars would be - my needs are pretty simple, I only refer to the 'primary' plug ins - 95% of that list would not pertain to me.
Incidentally - to change the subject - I have yet to be able to run Real Player without it freezing up my system ... 2 different machines running WinMe, same problem ... no help from RP support - anyone know of glitch-fix or had similar problem?

100% of it doesn't pertain to me, I don't use Windows any more :)

Seriously though, that's why I added the "Most Popular" page, because most people don't need 90% of that stuff. It also shows that installing certain plugins with Netscape 7 can be a downright painful experience (as I said...)
