Uploaded to FTP server as well for your easy downloading.

If you want to test it, you might want to create a new profile for it.

The extra bookmark links (ONLY apply to new profiles), and can be easily removed.

Hi Antony,

I get a "File not found" error when trying this link:
ftp://ftp.sillydog.org/pub/sd/netscape70_sd701.exe

I'm downloading from the http site instead.

Antony,

No problems with the download from the http site. I installed only the:
Navigator
Mail
Spell Checker

So far so good, and it definitely loads this site faster than Opera 6.04! Good for you!

I'll let you know more as I browse. Oh yes, one thing I can't seem to change is the Netscape Search Button on the Personal Toolbar. It is unchecked/disabled in Preferences, but it is stubborn and won't go away? Any suggestions, or is this something we have to live with?

Thanks,

Ramona

I installed the Sillydog with Mail after download from http site(same reason as Ramona). I had to create a new Profile to make it work properly. The old profile had been around. And, everything works well, after I fixed the big help of Netscape in replacing the shortcut. I am using now the new guy, now.

I created a new Profile for the previous version of 7.0 I had installed. I uninstalled that version, left the Profile folder intact. When I installed the Streamline Version from Antony's http link, there were no problems at all with the Profile. Everything was still perfect... except that darned Netscape Search Button is still on my Personal Toolbar!

One other tiny flaw in the install itself. On the Set Up screen where you see the components you have selected: I deselected IM but it appeared on this screen. I had to go back twice and deselect IM two more times to get the setting to stick. Other than that, I have to say that I am very impressed! I think I may start using the email more frequently and see how it works. Mozilla 1.1 Mail is excellent, but then... I have a single mail account. The total install was 11,508 KB.

Cheers,

Ramona :D

Hi Antony,

The screen where you select the following components:
Netscape 7.0 Setup - Select Typical Components
Navigator
Instant Messaging
Spell Checker

I kept deselecting Instant Messaging, but when I got to the screen that shows the components you have selected... the final screen before the actual install:
Netscape 7.0 Setup - Start Install
Instant Messaging would be there. I would then have to back up and deselect Instant Messaging again.

All right, I will check the setup script file.
In the mean time, you can check the new Streamline information page http://sillydog.org/narchive/sd/70.html

Thank Ramona for reporting.

The file has been fixed and uploaded to the FTP server. (not HTTP one, the HTTP one renamed to OLD)

Now you can install Netscape 7.0 Streamline (with Mail) following options:
NS7 + Mail (no AIM) without trouble.
and
NS7 + AIM (no Mail)

You don't need to redownload the file, however if you decide to keep the file, I suggest you getting the updated file.

    Extra Information:
  1. Same as previous Netscape streamlines, there is an identify string (SillyDog) in your UserAgent string. This is required by the CCK License Agreement.
  2. Picture below shows 4 extra bookmark entries, (grouped into a folder) link to useful webpages in Silly Dog 701. (note: this only apply to new profiles) Image
  3. If you are using Netscape profiles from previous Netscape, your bookmark and sidebar settings will not be changed.
  4. The default Silly Dog 701 Sidebar Tab is only available for people who create a new profile using the streamlined packages. Everyone is welcome to install Silly Dog 701 Sidebar.
  5. It is recommended not to share Netscape 7 profile with Mozilla.
  6. Although it runs perfectly under Windows 95, Netscape does not official support Netscape 7 run under Windows 95. The supported platforms are: Windows 98, 98Se, Me, NT, 2000, XP.
  7. If you create a new profile with this streamlined Netscape, the additional bookmarks and sidebar tab can be easily removed.
  8. Streamline for Macintosh may be created, however, I need someone to help me build it and test it.
  9. Streamline for Linux might be created, again, I need help.
