what are the other JAVA plug-ins beside Sun Microsystems' that will work on NS 7?

There are no others. Sun Java is THE industry standard Java.

I believe the Blackdown JVM can be used on Linux, and of course Apple's MRJ on Macintosh, but other than that it's Sun's JRE 1.3.1 or higher - with 1.4.1 being the best choice
