PCLinuxOS

Postby Edward » Mon 02 Jan, 2006 3:14 pm

Does anyone use PCLinuxOS, it is built on Mandriva. I downloaded the LiveCD last week and (at least) Konqueror runs very fast.

Would the fact that it's based/built on Mandriva have anything to do with it? The only Linux I've used is SuSE.

So far I've used both Fedora Core and some pre-Mandriva (Mandrake) releases, and I've always found that the Mandrake builds were much faster to boot before configuring what loads at startup. Even when I had both builds customized in a similar fashion, I still found Mandrake to be slightly faster. As for the LiveCD versions, it could be that I have a slow (12x) CD drive, but I've always found them to be painfully slow.

I may just go give it a try, and then compare the speed to that of the Mandrake 10.1 LiveCD I have stashed away.

I finally installed PCLinuxOS on both of my computers, eliminating SuSE Linux in the process and am very pleased with it.

A pleasant surprise I discovered, is that PCLOS boots up in 1/2 the time that SuSE took, even on my slower Pentium. :)
