Plug ins

Postby jjssparkle » Mon 01 Jan, 2007 3:24 pm

As per usual with my history of attempted consistent Opera use over the years I find myself having plugins work properly. It has been a chronic problem that has really helped me stay with Netscape and/or Mozilla software over the years, so, maybe that's a good thing? LOL.
Have had better luck with the Shockwave plugins working but when it comes to WinMedia - have tried copying/pasting into Opera plugin folder the necessary files specified on Opera website and even gone to Microsoft site and downloaded plugin from there which is supposed to automatically place it; I have IE 7 installed and current Flash but still a no-go when trying to actually use it. So ... while I do have accolades for some of what I've seen in latest Opera versions it still goes second fiddle for me and Mozilla Firefox. Anyone have any other wise suggestions as to what goes wrong with my attempt at having a functioning WinMedia plugin for my current Opera install? (Opera 9.1)

I had made a separate post of this; thought I'd apply it to this thread as well.

I have given up on opera. I have gotten tired of sites that do not work. and having to mess with Plugins. I'm having flash problems myself. Firefox at least works on most sites. That's what i like. Not having to change browsers back and forth because pages do not work in Opera. You might want to try your question in the Opera browser forums. Sillydog701 is great, but the opera portion does not really get much action from what i've notice.

I would venture to say that most of us are confirmed Firefox/SeaMonkey users many of whom use Opera as a second browser from time to time. SillyDog really began a number of years ago as a support forum for Netscape users and it grew like an acorn into an oak. :)

Opera is a fine browser... no denying that. But Firefox just works better for me. Besides, I don't want an everything out of the box experience. I want the barebones of Firefox which I can then expand with extensions to whatever I want. I've a feeling again that this is pretty much the feeling of most. Firefox is also open source and its security glitches are dealt with in a quick fashion. Not to say Opera suffers in that department but let's face it... more sites open with Firefox for obvious reasons (a few hundred million downloads didn't hurt).

All the best
