Problems with 4.80

Postby dhump » Sat 24 Aug, 2002 11:53 pm

Two odd things have happened since I (A) installed NS4.80, (B) attempted to install and then uninstall Norton AV and (C) since I installed Zone Alarm Pro 3.0: first, the "layer" that is supposed to go away automatically when I first get on Silly Dog does NOT go away and, second, when I get mail, the sound (the little bell that is supposed to sound when I get mail) does not sound. My sound card is working fine, I get other MS default sounds, etc. and I DO have the "play sound when message arrives" box checked. Any ideas about what is going on here? Could the failure of the box that appears when I log on to Silly Dog not going away have something to do with a java issue and Zone Alarm? These are not huge problems but I would, nonetheless, like to solve them. Any ideas?

I,actually, get a .wav file with 4.8. I do not think that java should have anything to do with this, nor the aborted Norton. But, whenever in doubt disable ZA. I fail all the time in signing on Sillydog, with every Netscape and Mozilla, so that's not it.

Thanks for your input. I have solved the mail sound issue (the problem is something turned that off in Windows) but the sign (or layer) that is supposed to disappear when getting on Silly Dog) still does not go away. I will attempt to disable ZA as you suggest to see if that is the problem.

Try disabling Zone Alarm's privacy settings. I know having them enabled can cause weirdness with Netscape 6.x/7.0PR1 and Mozilla, so it can't hurt to try disabling them instead of completely disabling the firewall.

Cool! You run Plugindoc? It's quite a useful resource.

Thanks for the compliment :)

I started it, and I do mostly run it, but it's getting to the point where more information is contributed by others than myself :)

I should really have my e-mail address displayed too.

Do let me know if you have any suggestions or such like, feedback is welcome.

As for the topic at hand, I've been looking at some of the problems people have had over in the Mozillazine forums, and Zone Alarm not playing nicely is one of them...
