Hi,
I am a web producer for a pretty big company. I wish
I could say which one, but unfortunately I can not because we are a public company. Anyway, 5% of the people that
come to our company website still use Netscape 4. The site I designed looks great on every browser except for NS 4. The code is fine, so now I can't figure out what is wrong with the site. I want to just tell the 5% out there to upgrade but we are not allowed to do that. The IS department thinks it
is CSS problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions, advice or answers?

It sounds to me that you're going to have to subscribe to the KISS principle and dump the CSS junk or just live with the fact that a significant percentage of the employees will not be able to utilize the website fully. Function vs Fancy? I build websites for a variety of companies and people and the ones that work best, the clients are happiest with and have the least trouble maintaining for themselves are the simplest, most basic ones. That doesn't mean dull websites but the big bandwidth-eating, CPU cycle hogging stuff is not only unrequired but actually a very negative thing. Some of the clients have a lot of access by telephone modem so the fancy-schmancy junk is really unappreciated by people having to wait for the page to download and they have to pay for on-line time. One page of a site I renovated took 21 minutes to load prior to being corrected by me (41 seconds when I was finished and there was almost no visual difference.)
