The Junk mail folder is interesting, if you want to access some of that mail, but but totally unnecessary. If you set up your Junk Mail settings to send the contents to Trash, you have all you want. I mark the mail as Junk, if it is not marked, and I do not have to worry.
I can, always, check the e-mails in the Trash folder.
What could be your problem? I would look at the size of the Junk file. If awfully large, all folders should be compacted. And, if nothing else helps, delete the Junk file, not just the junk.msf file. A new junk file will be created, and empty. But, again, why bother with a Junk folder?
