I had Netscape 4.08 installed and I created a new profile, but since then I have uninstalled Netscape 4.08. When I installed Mozilla 1.7, I see the profile I created in Netscape 4.08 in the profile manager. Can I delete the profile, and if I can, where is it located?

If you didn't change the installation directory, go into c:\Program Files\Netscape\Users. These are your Communicator profiles. Mozilla/Netscape 6/7 profiles are in c:\windows\application data\mozilla (in your case of Windows98) or c:\documents and settings\<username>\application data\mozilla\profiles

No, I can't find the location where you stated. I created a new folder called Netscape4 to install Netscape 4.08 because I didn't want it in the same location where Netsacpe 7.02 was installed. The folder location was c:\Program Files\Netscape4. Then after I uninstalled Netscape 4.08, I deleted the folder. Was that a mistake?

Somehow that old 4.08 profile has gotten converted into a Netscape 7.xx profile or is waiting to be converted into a Netscape 7.xx profile. This is the only way that you would see it in the Netscape 7.xx Profile Manager. (According to Netscape only profiles for Netscape 4.5 or higher may be converted.)

Be sure Netscape is closed, and start the Netscape 7.1 Profile Manager. Profile Manager should have an easily located "delete" button somewhere (maybe after using a "manage" button?). It may or may not ask you if you really wish to delete the actual profile files instead of just deleting its name from the list of available profiles. In any case, you may go to the actual profile location(s) and delete the entire directory for that profile, thus ending its miserable existence.

Netscape 7.0 can remove this profile from the list of profiles that it maintains but you must remove it from your system using the version of Netscape that had created it, or by hand. Do you want to remove this profile from the list of profiles?" So, do I need to install Netscape 4.08 again to remove the profile?

No need to install Netscape 4.08. Go ahead and tell Netscape 7.02 to delete it from your list so that it won't bother you anymore. (It is possible that just the name of the old profile exits on this list even after you deleted the profile.) Then you can search for this old Netscape 4 user profile at your leisure.

It is possible that there is a Users folder located at C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users that only belongs to Netscape 4. If not, use your favorite search program (or Windows Search) and look for all folders with the word, users, in the name. There should be very few of them and one of them will contain the old profile (if it still exists). Identify it and delete it.
