Program/virus removal

Postby djv1 » Fri 19 Feb, 2010 12:00 pm

hey guys/gals had a bit of a problem with my xp machine the other day. the little brother got on it and somehow downloaded a program called antisoft antivirus. and now what it is doing is telling me that it is out of date and all of the programs on my computer (even solitare) is infected and cannot run.. It won't even let me into add and remove programs to get rid of it. it say it is also infected. for lack of taking it into the shop to get someone that has a clue to remove it, does anyone have any suggestions for me??

thanks

Dustin

If you have anything legitimate like Spybot or Ad-Aware installed, try booting into Safe Mode and running them that way. If not, you can always download them to a flash drive and run them from Safe Mode that way.

I would add Malware Bytes to Don's suggestions. Before I take my unit to a repair shop, however, I'd ask if they could do anything more than run those or similar programs because from my own malware experience, they're likely going to wipe your drive and reinstall Windows which you could do yourself.

Take a look at this, to uninstall the program.
Let me know if it does not apply.

System Restore?

Postby jjssparkle » Sun 07 Mar, 2010 12:26 am

There's also a chance, just a suggestion, try using System Restore and go back to a date prior to the problem. Has worked for me in the past on a few issues. That's what it's there for.
