According to iTWire, the price for the next PSP - PSP Go has a rrp (recommended retail price) of A$449.95, that's just A$50 cheaper than the [sdt=15938]PSP Slim[/sdt]!

And at the price tag of A$450, it's enough for two DS Lites!

The current PSP, PSP-3000, has a rrp of A$300. PSP Go will be smaller comes with 16GB of internal flash memory and more RAM. The UMD slot will be gone and uses digital downloads instead.

I wonder how many people can afford a portable gaming device at a price tag of A$450, considering a huge percentage of gamers are not financially independent.

The PSP is in an entirely different league to the Nintendo DS. A PSP nearly has the same level of performance as the Playstation 2. All that faster hardware has to come at a higher cost.

In the end, I think Nintendo and Sony are targeting different markets. Nintendo are aiming primarily at kids and young teenagers with the affordable hardware and a catalog of games that mainly target a younger audience - like Pokemon. There are some adult-oriented games like GTA Chinatown Wars but, they are relatively few in number.

The PSP is obviously more powerful and more expensive, targeting older teenagers and adults who tend to have more disposable income. The games also obviously more targeted to that market segment.

There are some adult-oriented games like GTA Chinatown Wars but, they are relatively few in number.

I was surprised when Rockstar announced GTA Chinatown Wars was going to be an exclusive title for what is,
to all intents and purposes, an electronic toy mainly for children. Not exactly the sort of device you'd expect
to have the extreme violence and very strong language of your average Grand Theft Auto type game.

Apparently, Rockstar are launching a version of GTA:CtW for the PSP later this year.

I just checked JB-HiFi yesterday.

The new PSP Go is selling for $398 with a media whatever pack.
The PSP 3000 (new) is available for $279 with two games and accessory pack.


Does PSP Go take Memory Stick PRO Duo (like the PSP 1000-3000)? Or just Memory Stick Micro (M2)?

It seems like PSP Go is not doing well in Australia and New Zealand.

According to The Age, PSP Go sells only "slightly over 1000" per week in Australia and New Zealand region. In comparison, PlayStation 3 Slim (which costs only $50 more than PSP Go) sells more than 10,000 per week.

"It's $450 (PSP Go) and you can get a decent PSP 3000 package for sub-$300, so it's hard to see who it was aimed at."
