Read messages in Thunderbird 3 mail folders

Postby Anonymosity » Tue 15 Dec, 2009 2:14 pm

Using stylesheet code, for Thunderbird 3 email folders, I could find only a method of determining that there were unread messages in them. Is there any way to indicate that a folder contains read messages?

When all fails look around. There an Advanced|Reading and Display with aunchecked box: "automatically..." If you place a check mark, you will have things the way you want.
Yet, another example of poor setting up by the developers.

Also, since the decision is not retroactive, leaving everything else make unread, there is a dot on the left of the message header. If clicked on it will disappear, marking the message read. So, if you know which message had been read before, it is possible to mark the header.

My problem is that Thunderbird now automatically marks everything that is deleted as read. The appearance of that folder does not change if there are only read messages in it, and there seems to be no way to make that happen. It would make more sense to me if deleted messages were marked unread, so that the Deleted (Trash) folder would change its appearance if something goes into it.

This was discussed elsewhere. I, personally, do not see a problem with what ends up in the Trash. I dump the trash, and compact the folders. However, I have a problem with some messages reappearing in the Inbox, in spite of what I am doing. But, I am not sure. I will double check on this.

Doesn't Thunderbird put messages back in the Inbox if they were marked as Junk, but then afterwards marked as non-junk?

I don't know what happens, as, since the Junk setting came out with NS7, and Mozilla, I have modified my Junk settings to send such mail, directly, to Trash. I check my Trash, but it is never a problem. And, if I would retrieve my message from from Trash, I would, probably, find it Read., but I never thought about it. It does not change anything.
I think that it is, for me, more of a matter of aesthetics and terminology.
I read a post at another newsgroup of someone taking issue of the fact TB (and as far back as NS7.x, I believe) calls creating a Contact, a Card. It is no problem for me, 8-) ,but it is for that fellow.
