Ramona,
I tested this before I posted it to make sure it would work. But keep in mind I am on Windows 2000. Though it will probably have the same effect on other systems, I just want that out in the open.
Okay, I first associated .mab files with Notepad by doubleclicking on my abook.mab file and choosing Notepad and checking the box to always open it with Notepad. Double clicked on it again to confirm it was associated and it was...so all is well so far

.
Next, I checked the "view file types" area to search for it, hoping maybe you had just overlooked it, but nope, no trace of it anywhere that I could find. So I removed the association the old-fashioned way, I deleted the entry from the registry

. Win 2K did not require a reboot, the association was removed immediately. Win 9x may need a reboot, I've no idea. Here is the key to delete:
- Code: Select all
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.mab
Now, I did a search for .mab before deleting it, and it existed only here and in a replication of that key under the unique user ID number keys in HKEY_USERS. So deleting the key above SHOULD take care of it, but if not, just do a search for .mab and delete the key in the unique user section as well.
I hope all of this makes sense. If not, please repost and I will try to clarify, maybe add some screenshots, whatever. Lord knows I am not always the most articulate feline around
