am looking for the client customization kit for either NS 7.1 or NS 4.8 or way to configure mozilla / firefox (custom buttons, custom favorites / bookmarks, etc.)

The last Netscape CCK for Netscape 4.x, was for v4.76, and the last CCK for Netscape 7.x was for 7.0.
There may be a Netscape CCK for the forthcoming Netscape 7.2, although this seems very unlikely.
