SD701 Message Centre layout

Postby Antony » Mon 04 Sep, 2006 9:09 am

I was in my friend's place today and noticed the layout of SillyDog701 Message Centre does not look right when viewing with browser window maximised.

Does anyone have any suggestion? Fill in the space with ads?

Instead of having the width of the Message Centre fixed at 750px, why don't you extend it a bit?

Your friend clearly has his screen set a quite a high resolution. It looks much higher than the most commonly
used 1024x768 resolution. That's what I usually have my display set at, and the forum looks fine to me.

Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

Forgot to mention, it was on 1280 x 1024 resolution, which is the optimised resolution for 17" LCD screen. (BTW, that was on my LCD screen.)

For what it's worth, here's what the forum looks like under a 1600x1200 resolution.

IMHO, the forum shouldn't be fixed to any screen resolution; instead, it should wrap to whatever the user chooses to have their browser window open to.

Thanks Billy,

From [sdt=10821]this thread[/sdt], we have another screenshot:
Image
The width in that screenshot was reduced from 1680. Sorry, I only have a 20-inch Apple Cinema Display.
(SillyDog701 Message Centre logo is intently left at position that confines to 750-pixel width.)

If the forum is allowed to be wrapped to 1680 pixel wide, it will be extremely hard to read in my opinion.

Only a 20-inch Apple Cinema Display?

SD701 looks alright with my browsing habits anyway at 1400 pixels wide, because I usually have my Bookmarks Sidebar open on the left, and Gaim running in docked mode on the right.

(My total browsing space is 1008 pixels wide -- weird number, I know.)

It'd look better if you didn't leave the logo in the middle...

Like this?

The width in the screenshot was originally 1680 pixels.

What shall I put in the middle then?

Just leave it empty?

Don't you think that would be a bit strange?

Edit:
Don't you think that would be strange to leave empty in the middle?

It looks strange at 2120px wide too.

Following design can solve the empty space problem.

If those ads mentioned in the screengrab aren't just an example, I won't hesitate to block the ones for Dell and AOL.

I think I'll pass on ads, given their size.
