And the link to other SillyDog701 posts (threads) will be in a new colour plus an icon ( )to differentiate from external links ( ). Internal link won't open in a new browser window.
External link, for example MozInfo701, will be opened in a new browser window.
For example, New G5 dual 2.5GHz (won't open in a new browser window)
If you are lazy, you can use the new sdt, the usage is sdt=thread ID
Hence the same link can be typed in a new way New G5 dual 2.5GHz | Code: | | [sdt=5941]New G5 dual 2.5GHz[/sdt] |
What if you want to link to a particular post?
Such as the second post in New G5 dual 2.5GHz thread?
Similarly, you can use the new sdp, the usage is sdp=post ID
Hence the same link can be typed in a new way the second post | Code: | | [sdp=34702]the second post[/sdp] |
How do you find the post ID?
Just click on the  next to "date time"
i.e. something like:
13 Jan, 2004 5:30 pm

The new behavior causes me to mistakenly close windows that I am working on. I would rather have the internal links open up in a new window instead of the same window, but I'll get used to the new system if this is not changed.

thanks for the feedback.
I have considered this issue, but if all (internal) links are opened in new window, there will be lots of windows overlapping. And there are always to copy a link in a new window or in a new tab. (Check your preference and the context menu.)
I haven't figured out a way to open a link which designed to be opened in a new window in the same window. Since it is easier to do the other way round, I decided to add this feature.

I was wondering about all those arrows in links.
I too would rather have internal links open in a new window, same as external links so I'll just right-click and open the link in a new window (or new tab). That's what I usually do on other sites when I want to look at a link but still have the original page open. That way I just X-out the new page without having to use the back button and reload the original page.

Our Message Centre is now even easier to link to.
To link to any particular thread (from outside), simply use our sdt=####, in the URL, such as http://sillydog.org/forum/sdt_####.php
e.g. to link to [sdt=10930] from other sites, you can use http://sillydog.org/forum/sdt_10930.php
Similar method applies to sdp=#### e.g. http://sillydog.org/forum/sdp_####.php
Of course, the old links still work.

We are into our second phase of URL tidying. All URLs will be displayed in this new way, making the link shorter.
Or course, the links in older format will always work.
