About the Netscape Toolbar and "Subject or Sender contains..." message search issues I reported in my earlier post:
I should have mentioned that I'm using the same 2 profiles that I used with the prerelease version of Netscape 7.2 (which also included the Netscape Toolbar). Just a thought.

Quick report:
Installed at home with no problems. Two ' low cost ISP' icons added, one on desktop, one in start menu. Not too bad.
It did steal my default browser setting though, even though I told it not to.

My suspicions were correct - it was a profile issue, specific to people who had been using a pre-release Netscape 7.2 and then installed the final 7.2, using the same profile.
Based on a post by ChrisI in the champions group, I removed the netscapetoolbar.rdf file from my two Netscape 7.2 profiles and...
I now had two additional options which were missing before
Clear Browser History and Form Fill

While I agree that Netscape should have included other search engines as part of the install, it is easy enough to add them back if you want to.
1) Go here: http://mycroft.mozdev.org/
2) Click on the search engine of your choice.
3) Select the appropriate version of the search engine you selected (i.e. Google Canada, Google Australia, or just plain Google).
4) A dialog box will ask you if you want to add the following search engine to your My Sidebar Internet Search Tab (that also means it will add it to your search engine list under preferences). Click "OK."
5) Go into Preferences and select the search engine that you have just added as the default search engine.
You may have to play with it a bit to get it to work. For instance, if your profile had Google as your default search engine under NS 7.1, and you have just added it using the procedure above for NS 7.2, do the following to get it to work again.
a) Go into Preferences and change the search engine back to Netscape Search, and click "OK."
b) Go back into Preferences and reselect Google as your default search engine, and then click "OK."
c) Google should now work as your default search engine.

Clear Browser History and Form Fill | I thought there's an "option" in the drop-down menu. Doesn't that work?

Thanks for the screenshot. No, I didn't have those two Button options listed, but now I do. The problem only exists, apparently, for people who reused a profile in NS7.2 Final that they had also used in the pre-release Netscape 7.2

OR, like I mentioned earlier, if you have another version of Netscape7.xx or Mozilla installed:
you can copy the (program files) searchplugins files, like:
google.src and google.gif
jeeves.src and jeeves.gif
To the Netscape 7.2 searchplugins folder, then those search engines will become available in preferences.

I wish the mac version had the toolbar... Easier to block/allow pop ups.

Yea I do that. I also like OW5's site preferences. Oh. and that hidden window you see in expose... it there to keep Netscape open even though you close the main window.

(they need a better box for that)

Hmm. I d/l'd the standalone browser and did a custom install, and got the netscape ISP icons.

Standalone still includes AOL on Desktop (now renamed to Netscape ISP on Desktop).
It appears that the "low-cost ISP" offer is only advertised to existing dial-up users, otherwise you get "Free AOL & Unlimited Internet" instead.

I suppose I've been spoiled by Firefox. I find several annoying things about the updated Netscape suite that I've grown accustomed to having in Firefox. The biggest of these is the ease of Search and tabbed browsing. I've said it before, tabbed browsing in Firefox is a BREEZE. Just a simple click on the New Tab button and you're on your way. I know I can use hotkeys to do it in NS but I prefer toolbar buttons.
Search is another matter. I despise Netscape Search. It's riddled with advertising traps and frequently the advertising gets in the way of an actual, useful search. I can't seem to customize the main Search button next to the address bar to give me anything but Netscape. I can, through Mycroft, customize the Seach in the sidebar but the fact is, I don't like to use the sidebar. In Firefox I already have the Google Search bar up beside my address bar and it's ready to go.
I'll be consigning NS to a secondary role I'm afraid. Firefox just keeps getting better and better and I can hardly wait for it to go gold.

My doctor said I was paranoid. Well, he didn't actually say it, but I could tell he was thinking it.
