I would never allow auto-updates. But, I want to know what's available.
For anyone who cares, I clicked on the "Clear History" icon, and I got a treasure of a dropdown. I will not need my beloved Prefbar anymore.
I would say that it is getting better and better, but, it is up to the user to find its uses, and the AOL-driven default makes NS8 totall infuriating.

Yes, I set mine to let me know when something is available, then I will watch the boards for a week to see if it trashes stuff then decide.
As far as clearing Histories and such, I just set mine to clear tracks when I exit the program and dump cookies also each time I exit...seems to be working, can't find any traces, but I agree, if AOL is behind it I am very suspicious.
I still can't truly figure out why AOL is resurrecting Netscape to begin with, but that's another topic for another day.

I notice that according to Netscape 8.0 Beta's release notes , Internet Explorer 6.0 is required "if using the Trident rendering engine." Out of curiosity, has anyone successfully used Netscape 8.0 Beta's IE rendering feature with an older version of Internet Explorer such as 5.x?

Yes, the preview and all to date did work on IE5 under Win 98.

Due to the nature of IE's COM-enabled engine, it should be possible to use the rendering engine even way back from IE4, which I believe was the first version of the engine that allowed a foriegn application, that is, one besides IE itself, to use the core.

Excuse me, but... It's quite easy, to tell this has been faked, as Netscape 8 uses its own UI to render the scrollbars, not the OS-native one. So, seeing that is true, why exactly is the Aqua scrollbar in there?

NS 8 uses Native scroll bars, not non-native.

Indeed, that appears to be so. That is also why the scrollbars of Netscape 8.0 Beta are gray (reflecting system colors and settings) on my system whereas everything else is teal.

I read the above to mean that the person just created an image of what NS8 would look like on Mac OS X.

So, I am slowly beginning to understand why Netscape itself did not use Seamonkey (the stuff which of beta version was Netscape 6) as the core for 8 version, as Mozilla Foundation stated on their site http://www.mozilla.org/seamonkey-transition.html, they are discontinuing Mozilla Application Suite (newer more merchandazible name for Seamonkey) in favour of Firefox. There will be no 1.8 version which I personally think is a pitty (especially when you consider that there was Netscape Communicator 4.8 version right before 7 release candidate )
Anyway all of us using NN 7.x or Mozilla 1.x have to make the decision what to use in a few months (or maybe a year) time as both apps are being discontinued. The positive aspect would be MAYBE that it will be less crowded in the "alternative browser" (alternative -what a word, IE was never an alternative for me) world. So I hope the guys in Netscape can market 8 as the better decision in the "after Mozilla" world -so dont use IE engine trident and this turquoise skin as default.

Has anyone tried the automatic log in option of the Passcard for this site?
The entire thing goes bananas, trying dozen of times in a row without signing in. And when I am done all saved Passcards are gone. Wow! what a feature.
