Freecorder 3.0 Toolbar from applian.com
This is a very simple mp3 recorder that does an excellent job. I am running it in two Vista computers with so far nary a hitch, no drop outs, etc. It sets itself upon installation as a toolbar in your browser. You can de-select it in view
You can do .wav, or .mp3, good bit rates. Very simple.

Richard,
freecorder is supposed to be compatible with all Windows versions, and should install in IE and Firefox. It worked like a charm in my Win XP Home, but I can't find any trace of it in Firefox2.0.0.6. It shows up as a toolbar in IE7, but I see nothing in Firefox.
It attempted to install in Firefox3.0a7 (Gran Paradiso) but after a number of attempt, it told me that it was not compatible with it. The search continues, but it does not look very promising. Maybe I got faked out by Firesomething.

Hey my friend how are you doing?
When I installed Freecorder, there was a page which asked what browsers I wanted to use, and showed me check boxes for FF and IE. I check both, just to be complete and thorough up front. I have only used it in FF, because normally I shy away from IE7, although of course I keep it up to date.
It just installed fine, in fact, it is at work in FF as I write.
Best wishes.

Richard, doing ok, and I hope that the same is true of you.
I got the same menu as yours. The boxes were checked, so I went on from there.
I would have never looked at IE7 had it not been for the fact that I could not see anything in Firefox. I am suspicious of the Firesomething addon which has made my Firefox incompatible before. The player got itself all tangled up with FF3.0a7 which has few compatible addons, but it becomes very usable thanks to the Nightly Tester Tool extention. But, I got nothing unusual with FF2.0.0.6. I will disable the Firesomething addon, and try again.

I don't know if it was the disabling of Firesomething, or what, but most important was to look for a.xpi file in the Freecorder Toolbar folder. Sure enough, there was a freecorder.xpi will which I installed like a regular addon. It worked very well. Now, it is playtime!

I am very pleased.
I have been going through a relative hell because my favorite, Total Recorder (from High Criteria, highcriteria.com) is not yet up on Vista and DirectSound. They have a work-around; but it destroys their lossless totally digital process. It involves standard radio patch cords from line-out to line-in. They claim they will be up on Vista and DirectSound, but cannot say when.
So, I was using Sound Tap (from NCH, nch.com.au). It is only minimally acceptible.
But beyond Total Recorder, which I can still use on my XP machines, there is only lossy digital-analogue-digital.
I got Freecorder from radio.about.com, Corey Deitz, a radio page by the New York Times property about.com. You know the computer users' favorite three words: "It Just Works".

I installed, also, in Navigator 9 from the .xpi file. Nothing could make it work in FF3.0a7, even with help of the Nightly Tester Tools.
As for making it work right, it is another story. There are so many different plugins and whatever to get that I got nowhere. But, mind you that I have taken only a few minutes with it, half reading the FAQs.
I got recordings, and I am not impressed. In each case, I am getting two identical file. One has no sound. The first recording was not bad, but the second one was sad. It sounded as if someone was popping popcorn in the background.

Oh, yes, vanished from FF2.0.0.6. I reinstalled from the .xpi file. Everything is back as I had it before, including "My stations". And, it plays the station in the toolbar. It never did that in either FF nor NS9. Recording works only if I select record, first, and then play the station of choice. It works, no doubt, but very wacky.
I think that freecorder gets confused because I have FF3.0a7, with which it is not compatible.

02 Oct, 2007 11:54 am question about freecorder |
[sdp=87526] |

Does anyone know how to remove the really annoying Freecorder graphic and the search box from the toolbar?
You can't do it with the advanced settings. Are there any FireFox plugins out there that could accomplish this?

I thought that I had replied to this, but my experience has been that only some graphics can be changed or removed. Freecorder is a toolbar, after all.
I would think that communicating with applian.com may be the way to start.
