I had mentioned earlier that I stuck a bumper sticker on my HP laptop.

And I missed it, so I printed one off for the 386. Very Happy

My mom got a new laptop for Christmas, and here are the specs. (Same model as mine, only slightly different specs)

Dell Inspiron 1501 with 15.4" WXGA Widescreen Display
Purchased Late November - Early December '07

AMD Athlon 64 X2 TK-55 (1.8GHz/256KB) Dual Core
processor

Windows Vista Home Premium
operating system

2 GB DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
RAM

80GB SATA Hard Drive
hard drive

24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive

optical drive

53 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
battery

256MB HyperMemory™ (Integrated)
video card

Microsoft Works 8.5
productivity software

Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini Card (54Mbps)
wireless networking card

This computer is MUCH better than my laptop, despite the fact that my laptop is only a few months old. This new laptop has a Dual Core processor, 2 GB of RAM (this thing is going to FLY), and Vista Home Premium, which means it has Windows Aero (but the standard theme on Home Basic (which I have on my laptop) is basically Aero without the transparency), and Windows Media Center. I'm jealous. Razz

I found another P3 machine - this time 600MHz with 256 megs of RAM and a 20GB hard drive with an ATI 3D Rage Pro graphics card. It was running a broken install of Windows 98 and had no CD drive, so I upgraded it to openSuSE Linux 10.3 by loading things off fourteen boot floppies and installing over FTP. Mad

Today I bought a new 550MHz CPU for one of the dead i440BX boards I have sitting around, and slapped an STB Velocity 4400 in it while I was at it. The machine can output to a TV now, so I don't have to go switching out monitor cables just to use it. It still has a 1GB hard drive and 64 megs of RAM, so I'm going to try FreeBSD on it later next week. Also, I'm poor and don't have a proper case for it, so I'm running it out of a static-proof bag.

That brings my total up to: one new and decent machine, three P3s, one P2, three P1s, and a 386.

Hi,

Having nine computers must mean that you are RICH. Only the esteemed Bryan Wellander ever had more than nine computers.

Hi,

This is an outrage. Micoroosoft has not given my computer a perfect 5.9 score! Evil or Very Mad

Realistically, Vista runs very well on this computer, I've not encountered any errors running Vista SP1 and the latest drivers are running superbly with only a minimal performance defecit vs. Windows XP. With this in mind, I'm keeping Vista as my main OS now. Smile

Just found this in the space above our garage:

Yes, that's an IBM PS/2, and it boots up.

Well, I figured since I am spending the week at my Aunt and Uncles house, I send you a screen shot of their Vista PC sys. properties.

Okay, so the image is a little big, but here is a link.

Presenting my new computer... a 15-inch MacBook Pro

It hath finally arrived.

Comparing the 12-inch PowerBook G4 and 15-inch MacBook Pro.

My desk:

Grumpy is very happy with the new MacBook Pro

Quick specs of 15-inch MacBook Pro:
  • 15-inch, 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
  • (upgraded to) 4GB 667MHz DDR2 memory.
  • 15.4-inch (diagonal) widescreen TFT LED backlit display with 1440 by 900 native resolution
  • NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB of GDDR3 SDRAM and dual-link DVI
  • (upgraded to) 200GB 7200-rpm drive

Finally, I have a laptop that can match with Don's super-fast 64-bit laptop with just a little incy wincy teeny weeny bit faster than Don's. (To Don: Antony is poor.)

More details and photos are available in this blog entry.

Do I really need to go over how a 2.5GHz Core 2 with a GeForce 8600 is orders of magnitude faster than a 2GHz Turion 64 with a Radeon Xpress? Not to mention that you spent nearly three times what I did.

Nice laptops. Put it this way. The only laptop that I have ever had consisted of a MS-DOS operating system. So, no, Antony is nothing considered to the state of wealth I'm in. Or shall I say un-wealth.

Nice new laptop Antony! Smile That thing must have great battery life with the new 45nm CPU in it. Good graphics performance with the Geforce 8600 as well.

I debated about upgrading the CPU in my machine with something similar, but in the end decided to wait for the next generation of CPUs due late '08.

I see that Antony with his two laptops and Don with his five laptops are both very rich. Mandrake is poor and has no laptop. Crying or Very sad
