SeaMonkey 2.0 beta is out.

Postby richard mitnick » Wed 22 Jul, 2009 6:46 pm

The SeaMonkey 2.0 beta is out. I tried it, but it is gone.

First, I was given no choice about installing only the browser, which is all I want.

Second, the wallet.crypto.autocompleteoverride, which I have toggled to true, and which came over from 1.1.17 as true, did not work, so, no choices for me for MyYahoo!, which for me is a must. I have seven id's and I am simply not going to type them in every time. So, back to 1.1.17.

I am anxious for 2.0 because I am told that it will "remember"(?) once typed or used email addresses in my ISP's web mail program.

My problem with this crashing FF was eliminated by disabling Java, which I seem otherwise to only need for Secunia scans and the New York Times Classic Crossword puzzle.

I have been testing 2.0 since the early days of v.a1 pre, long, long ago. It has taken forever to be available as a late test download, but I will continue with the nightlies, as they give me no trouble.
As for issue 1, since Seamonkey is a suite, and all previous suite had to be installed as such, and not a pieces, I don't see the fact that it did not offer the choice to do so as anything unusual. It, surely, was not possible to install browser only, to the best of my knowledge, for the old Netscape, and Mozilla suites, and the present Seamonkey 1.1.7.
2. As for the second issue, it is no problem for me. It depends on Yahoo, and the way you allow usernames/passwords to be saved. I have only one ID, and I don't have to enter it every time. But, I use Yahoo!Mail Notifier

Fulvio-

I had Netscape in the original back when it came out. Always that Netscape, and Mozilla Suite which replaced it, there were three modules, browser, composer, mail. You could install any or all.

I'm trying out the latest 2.0pre right now and one thing I've noticed is that web pages display a lot faster than they do in 1.1.xx.

Please note that it is a Release Candidate and it is advisable to read the Release Notes on the page above and everything else pertaining to it, before trying it out.

I have already reported one issue with it, as I am not sure that what occurred, is the intended behavior of the feature.

The old wallet.crypto thing for saving user id's and passwords for MyYahoo! is gone; but, and for me this is big, the bookmarklet at https://www.squarefree.com/bookmarklets/forms.html which overrides this is still available and still works in 2.0 RC1. I a using it.

Roboform works in 1.X, but not yet for 2.0. I will be bugging them for this, it is preferable to the bookmarklet.

O.K., 2.0 RC1 is up and running beautifully. Even the default theme is fine in Vista. I got the password bookmarklet running just fine

The biggest thing for me, the thing I was waiting for is that SM 2.0 "remembers" email addresses once typed in my ISP's web mail. FF had done this, it quit in 3.5. Safari had done it, it quit in 4.0.

SM 2.0 also plays music from http://www.hos.com (try it, free on Sundays, you will like it).

So, once it is released, SM will probably be my default, because it best fills the bill on what I want.

Oh- and it is really speedy!!.

This new release of SM 2.0 seems to be rendering pages faster than Google Chrome.

I like. :]
