I was told in a separate post "Clean transport & re-install questions 1.7.x" that I should be able to set up multiple mail acounts in a single profile.

I am not sure that I understand what this means or how to impliment it ... I am accustomed to having multiple profiles.

Bob,

You want to set up multiple accounts in which program? It is possible and really easy, so just let us know which program and we'll go from there.

I am currently using Mozilla 1.7.8, but will probably install 1.7.12 on the new computer. I am beginning to believe I am misusing the the terms 'user profile', 'profile', and mail accounts ... etc. At this point I am not even sure that multiple mail accounts in a single profile is what I want????

If you don't mind, could you please glance through my other post "Clean transport & re-install questions 1.7.x" ... maybe you can get me headed in the right direction!

Bob,

It seems you are doing a lot of things at once!

- I don't want to loose my mail history and file folder arrangements (about 1000).
- Want all three of us to have our own email address / signatures.
- I want everyone to have the same inbox and mail folders (regardless of email address) and choose their preferences at startup by selecting a preference.

You won't lose anything, as long as you keep a current backup of the Profiles folder. On Windows 98 that folder is located here:
C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles

On the new PC it will be located here:
C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles

I do have a guideline for Moving a Profile to a New OS. It won't be necessary to do anything more than move the Profiles folder from the old PC to the new, as Mozilla 1.7.x uses relative paths to determine the new location.

Now, if you want family members to share the same Inbox, then once you have copied the Profiles folder to the new PC:

Open Mail & Newsgroups in each family member Mail Account
Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings | Server Settings
Scroll down to the "Local directory" field
Change that path to the one where the Inbox you want them to share is located.
Do this for each family member except the one which has the Inbox you wish them to share.

Let me know if you have questions.

I believe I understand ... I plan to do things as much as I can in a step by step manner.

On my original question ...
This approach seems to be 'multiple profiles' ...

What is meant by 'multiple mail accounts in a single profile' Question
I will be using AT&T dial up and High Speed Internet simultaneously if I can for a short period of time to try to keep up with my email Confused

Thanks very much for taking the time to help out!

Yes, it is for multiple Profiles.

Create one Profile
Then set up a Mail Account for each family member
Point the "Local directory" setting to the Inbox you want each member to use

As an example, I have 6 Mail Accounts with my Cable provider
I have only one Profile
I have set up 6 Mail Accounts in that one Profile
I believe you can set up unlimited accounts in one Profile

You could set up your accounts for the Cable Provider and your accounts with AT&T, until you are ready to discontinue dialup.
