Hello everyone.

Have a Bluetooth connection query.
Run PowerMac G4 OS X 10.3.9
Have a Belkin USB Adapter connected to the keyboard.
Bluetooth preferences panel does come up and I can see my mobile phone, so it does work.
What I would like to do is connect to my Belkin Router/Modem but it is not coming up in the device window.

Any ideas why I can't see it?

Best wishes

Trevor

Hello Trevor,

How do you connect to the Belkin Router/Modem? via Ethernet cable or via USB?

You won't be able to see it (directly) if you connect it via Ethernet cable.
Once you've connected it (and powered), follow the instruction in the manual and you should be able to log in and configure it.

Hope this helps.

Hi there and thank you for the reply.

Not sure what you mean (me being stupid) I want to use the Bluetooth adapter so I don't have to use any cable (USB or Ethernet–I hate cables!)
Currently the Belkin Router/Modem is connected to a PC in another room and my Mac is then via a very long Ethernet cable connected to the Router/Modem.

I so want to get rid of the cable.

Okay, you can't use Bluetooth for internet network.
(It can only be used for internet connection from your mobile phone.)

To connect from Router/Modem, you will need to go to wireless solution, that's use AirPort Extreme card in your Mac and use EITHER AirPort Extreme BaseStation OR AirPort Express (OR any 802.11g standard wireless router would do.)

Hello.

Thank you so much for your comments/advice, I really appreciate your time, the quick reply and advice.

Thank you.

Will have to see about getting the Airport Extreme card (will it be compatible with my PowerMacG4 running OS X 10.3.9 and where do I put it?). What about the Netgear MR-314 Cable/DSL Wireless Router will this be ok?

Regards

Trevor

Trevor,
Which Mac model (hardware) do you have? You might already have Airport (Extreme) included.

To my knowledge, the mentioned Wireless Router will work with Airport.

Hi again.

Have a PowerMac G4 (old Mac these days!)
So to be clear, using the Bluetooth Adapter and the Netgear MR-314 Cable/DSL Wireless Router I won't need an Airport Extreme card or base station or will I?

Regards

Trevor,
You will NEED an Airport Extreme card (or Airport card, if older model) to use with Wireless Router/Modem.

Your Bluetooth Adapter does not work with Wireless Router/Modem.
