from Cnet News.com :
The company had charged either $99 for up to four physical processors or $199 for an unlimited number of processors. The announcements were made in conjunction with the LinuxWorld conference in Boston this week.

Does anybody happen to help but wonder that something's wrong with this picture -- Microsoft giving away Vista ISOs, now their virtualization software?
Nevertheless, no time like the present to give this a download to replace the non-free software I have.

The thing is... what threat? I was reading on Slashdot a day or two ago that Microsoft now had the highest share of the server market anyway.
Better idea: they're making people dependant. The next release will be insanely expensive. Take a look at what happened with Office: Small Business Edition use to be $129, now it's a whopping $249; people buy it because they're dependant on Office.

BTW, the ordering page (of this free CD) is far more complicated than ordering from Apple Store (online).

I'm not going to even bother downloading it anyway -- server virtualization is different from workstation virtualization. For one, it should be noted that Virtual Server 2005 doesn't support graphical output, which doesn't exactly make it optimal for workstation use. It's possible to use Windows' built-in Terminal Services feature, though I'd rather not use that for purposes such as this.

VMware server supports graphical output, and it works like a charm for workstation usage. (talking from self-experience)
