Cool finding, Antony.

This release has its own Release Notes page too. It's located at
http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/releases/1.0.8.html

(Mozilla Foundation) strongly recommend that all users upgrade to this latest version.

Nothing much has changed, since I have been using, for several weeks, the nightly. I, just, installed it in its own directory, because I am planning to keep 1.0.7, although I will use 1.0.8.

Thanks for the release notes link, J-M.

This could be good for Netscape 8.1.x update, at least.

Probably true, but where is being stated?

Thanks, Antony. I had been attached to the 1.0.x series, but I may have no choice using 1.5.0.2 or seamonkey1.0.1. I use tthem anyway, but, to my disappointment the profile which I used for 1.0.8 died on me, after one day. May be the extentions are not as reliable as originally thought. I will try in safe-mode, and see if I can start it. The symptom is the same as withother 1.0.x profiles. Everything works fine, and then I start later, and I see only the toolbars, and they are inactive.

Stay with 1.5.0.2.
1.0.8 is the latest for 1.0.x series.

I was staing with 1.0.7 because 1.5.0.1 did not have all the extentions which I liked, as well as the fact the 1.5 series held on to more Memory.
With the upgrade to 1.0.8 the extentions field has been levelled, if not, actually making 1.5.0.2 more desirable. As for the memory, it is no big deal
(don't ask me about Netscape8.1). if any. Use 1.5.0.2, but if you like to play, use 1.0.8.

Fulvio,

(I'm brand new here, so sorry for the late post.)

I too am attached to the 1.0xx versions of FF. Mainly because of extension issues, but after trying out FF 1.5.1, .2 and now .3. I think I'll wait awhile until the bug fixes show up. All that new code is showing its fragility if you ask me.

I do have one question about FF 1.0.8. Which is, since it is end of life, can we expect any bug fixes for it? I ask because as near as I can figure, FF 1.0.8 and FF 1.5.0.2 are pretty close in terms of bug and security fixes and so I expect that there will be security alerts that will affect FF 1.0.8 and I worry whether or not the Mozilla Foundation will release bug fix versions such as say, FF 1.0.8.1

Tks for listening,

Nick

I am doing fine with 1.0.8, but have needed to created a new profile. Why the problems? I have a simple explanation. I try all sort of versions with their nightlies. Most likely, something was written in the prefs.js which was incompatible, or an extention was not completely removed. I have done some heavy editing, and found out that what is written in the prefs.js file does not go away. Extentions are uninstalled, but, lines after lines about them remain behind.
I have made 1.5.0.3 my default, but I am still using 1.0.8, and now 2.0a2. But, I keep the profiles well separated.
Will there be bug fixes for 1.0.8? I doubt it. I think that it is time to move on, but, I don't, necessarily, like where or how we are going there.

Fulvio,

I really, really hope they have the smarts to do bug fixes for 1.0.8. I was not happy how the "Young Turks" handled Mozilla Suite, nor how they changed bug reporting to a simpler, less robust system. I'm sticking with 1.0.8 for now and hope that by the time they put out 1.5.0.4, some of the bugs that need swatting will be swatted.
