Apple has initiated a worldwide battery exchange program for certain rechargeable batteries that were sold for use with 15-inch MacBook computer systems from February 2006 through May 2006.
The affected batteries have model number A1175 and a 12-digit serial number that ends with U7SA, U7SB or U7SC.
No other MacBook Pro or MacBook batteries are part of this program. The affected batteries do not pose a safety risk.

Apple's voluntarily recall of MacBook Pro batteries did not pose any safety threat, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said. News from InformationWeek, Feds Clear Some Apple MacBook Pro Batteries Of Safety Defects .
Apple has voluntarily launched an exchange program for batteries sold in some 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops, but the Cupertino, Calif., company said on its support Web site that it was doing so only because it discovered the batteries "do not meet our high standards for battery performance."
The batteries were sold between February and May, and Apple said that since there are no safety issues, the batteries could still be used until replacements arrive.

The CPSC's Wolfson also declined to say if Sony was involved in the manufacturing of the MacBook Pro batteries in question, since a recent recall of 4.1 million notebook batteries by PC giant Dell involves Sony laptop batteries.
