20 Nov, 2006 5:31 am Happy 21st, Windows! [sdp=79604]

Some of our SillyDog701 members are not even reached the age of 21! I first started using Computer with MS-DOS 3.3, then Windows 3.0, and Windows 3.1 shortly.

Believe it or not, Windows is 21 years old today (20th Nov 1985). It first launched in 1985.

Connected Internet provides some interesting facts:
  • Windows (v1.0) was priced US$100, which is about US$177 in today's money.

  • Microsoft sent out a press kit two years before launching, with a real squeegee and a cloth, see picture below.

  • Windows 3.1 was the first stable release.

  • The Bill and Melinda Dates Foundation is the world's wealthiest organisation for charitable grants with assets of approximately $65 Billion

  • Windows crashes an estimated 25 million times a day.

  • The phrase Blue Screen of Death "BSoD" came up from Erik Noyes in 1991.

Happy 21st Birthday Windows.

Just for the record,
Windows was born on 20th November 1985. Macintosh was born on 24th January 1984.

So, Windows is 21 today, and DJGM is 32 today! That makes me precisely 11 years older than Windows!

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!
