A month ago , I mentioned the PDF creating software - Adobe Acrobat 8 was released and available in Universal Binary.
Today, Adobe released Adobe Reader 8 (previously known as Adobe Acrobat Reader). It's a Universal Application, (actually, they provide both PowerPC and Intel versions for Mac users.) The official application to read PDF documents is now available for Intel-based Mac users.
Adobe Reader 8 enables you to securely view, print, search, sign, and verify the authenticity of Adobe PDF files. With Reader 8, you can easily collaborate on a document with the new Start Meeting conferencing button. Additionally, Reader 8 features a simpler, streamlined interface with customizable toolbars.
Screenshot of Adobe Reader 8:
After a quick test with Adobe Reader 8, I like the new interface, and noticed it's faster than previous version, however, I am not sure if it's faster than Apple's built-in Preview.
Adobe Reader 8 requires:
Mac
PowerPC G3 or later or Intel-based Macintosh
Mac OS X 10.4.3 or later
128MB of RAM and 110MB of hard disk space
Safari 2.0.2
Windows
Intel Pentium III or equivalent
Windows XP with SP2, Windows 2000 with SP4, Windows 2003 Server or Windows Vista
128MB of RAM and 110MB of hard disk space
IE 6.0 or 7.0; Firefox 1.5 or later; Mozilla 1.7; AOL 9

One thing I have to say... Adobe Reader 8 is surprisingly fast. Unlike Adobe Reader 6 or 7. It is really fast.

100+MB installation size is, IMHO, somewhat bloated for what is only a document viewer application.
As you can see by my screengrab, it uses 117MB of HDD space on my system. The program above it is a HDD
cloning/backup application, which is something I would expect to use quite a sizeable chunk of HDD space.

Mozilla = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Microsoft Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks! |

On Windows (I'm not sure of the Mac version) Adobe Reader 8 can use your GPU to help render PDFs, smooth out the scrolling etc. Pretty cool stuff, and it works a treat on my Radeon X1600 XT.
