My Tiny A360 has gone dead - it won't power up.
Does anyone know where I can download a service manual?
I've Googled and can't find anything.

Hello Brian, welcome to KJ Computers.

First of all, you may not need a service manual. Is the machine dead connected to the mains? It may be that your power adaptor has blown completely, or the capacitors have worn out, and not outputting enough power to power your laptop.

Get a multimeter, and check the output voltage on the DC plug, it should be exactly 19v 1.6a. If not, your adaptor will need to be replaced.

If the voltage on the output rails is correct, the motherboard has a problem. In my daily work, 99% of the time, a power fault on a laptop is due to the power turret on the DC input jack on the motherboard being loose on its rivet, or on the solder joint to the board. The centre pin on a DC jack is riveted to a contact at the socket rear, which in turn is soldered to the PCB directly, and this is a very common fault on laptops, especially when they are constantly unplugged, and plugged in, and if they're knocked about, they can get loose.

If this is the case, you'll need to strip the machine down, using the service manual, which i'm going to link to for you in a second. Then check the solder joints round your DC jack, and if necessary, re-solder them. Always de-solder them first though, this always gives us best results. Before you strip the machine though, wiggle the centre pin of the jack gently with a long nose pair of pliers. There should be no free play in it whatsoever, if there is, the centre pin is loose.

If it's loose at the rivet behind the jack, the whole jack will need to be replaced, you can get these from any electrical shops, make sure you get the right one though.

If you are ever in doubt, get professional help, i don't want you hurting yourself, or your laptop.

Good luck my friend, and if you need more advice, i'm always here, and happy to help.
