Welcome to SillyDgo701.
Yes, Mac OS X recognises (i.e. can see) NTFS as well as FAT32.
However, Mac OS X can only read NTFS formatted HDD, for compatibility between Windows and Mac OS X, you should format it with FAT32 file system format (read and write).
As for myself, I formatted my external HDD to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) since I don't plan to connect it to a Windows PC.
