What you are looking at is a draft of the main toolbar of Netscape 9.0, running on Windows XP.
Netscape 9 will be a standalone browser, and from this screenshot, you can infer several things: unlike Netscape 8, Netscape 9 will contain support for newsfeeds (a.k.a. Live Bookmarks); it will also have tight integration with the Netscape.com service, as evidenced by the icons for the two available Netscape.com extensions (Friends' Activity Sidebar and the Sitemail Notifier). Several Netscape.com-based extensions will be built into the browser; only these two have been previously announced.
I'll be posting a new announcement, feature teaser, or progress report right here each Tuesday, so stay tuned.

Go to ufaq.org to view the piece of toolbar, which is irrelevant. So, it looks like they are going to stick with the standalone browser.

Thanks, Fulvio. I'm disappointed and a bit surprised as well. I just cannot understand why they have abandoned the concept of an integrated browser.

That was, precisely, what I posted at the ufaq.org website. I can understans why the Suite was not a top priority. Just think for a moment, it is AOL, after all. A browser can bring in as revenue, but a mail program may divert ad revenue. I know that ad-based mail clients have appeared, but they were never appreciated.

Ah, I see what you mean. Have you seen the web mail from myway.com? It has a clever way of introducing revenue producing elements into the mail. Probably wouldn't work in a suite of apps for a pop mail account. I don't like the idea of Netscape.com "services" being integrated so tightly into the proposed browser. It's beginning to smell strongly of AOL.

Thanks to you, I am using myway.com. Really neat. I am not using the mail very much, as I have addresses coming out of my ears. Interestingly, one of my two aim.com addresses started getting spam. I don't know what is AOL system, but I know that it will block legit mail, and is not very good with real spam.
You say smell of AOL. Heck, Netscape is AOL. Unfortunately, many people are still thinking in the past. All that is left is the name.

You know, Fulvio, I actually used to pay for my browser (and I'm sure you did as well). I remember paying $40 for my first copy of Netscape (3.0) and $45 for my first copy of Internet Explorer (4.0). I'd be willing to pay for a Netscape browser that did NOT come with all the AOL junk and bloat, provided it was set up in such a way that it would keep pace with security patches and continue development. But I'm probably hopelessly thinking in the past on that one. lol
Glad you're enjoying myway.com's email. It's become my main web mail account and I've found its filters to be pretty good.

Which Netscape Mail icon? It should be no different than the icon in the present NS8, and Firefox, i.e. System Mail. Or do you mean some other icon?

Is it possible a renewed Netscape portal will be in the works as well? After all... we have these two interesting comments from Jay G.
- What's "suspicious" about Netscape tying in it's own portal / website, etc.??

-You're speaking of MyNetscape I assume. MyNetscape is undergoing a major overhaul and will be ready in about another month.
So perhaps the Digg-type Netscape homepage will become either a thing of the past or a new, additional offering will be made. Who can say?

fwiw, you can add that the screen shot, probably inadvertently, reveals that NS9 is based on at least FF 2.0 .
In FF 2.0 the 'Go' main menu entry was changed to History....... (File Edit View Go)
Just how much of the FF 1.0x based NS8 code from Mecurial Comms (Here's a PDF of their NS8 brochure) the new Netscape Dev group manage to re-use or port, or even want to, will be interesting....
It already seems the IE Engine has been dropped....
Let's hope it's a bit more than FF with a new theme and some extensions bundled in.....

Hmm, very good points.
I've been busy recently, and haven't paid that much attention to Netscape 9.
