Australia's iconic bridge - Sydney Harbour Bridge - celebrates 75th birthday today. It was opened on the afternoon of 19th March 1932.



There was an interesting story about the opening of the bridge. The bridge should be opened by the premier of NSW, Jack Lang, but a guy called Francis de Groot cut the ribbon with his sword before the premier. He was arrested and the ribbon was retied and Jack Lang cut it open finally. You can read more about Francis de Groot's story on Wikipedia.
