If you live in Australia, the wait will be over this Friday. Sony PlayStation 3 will be officially launched for AU$999.
Anyone getting one?

nah, too expensive and the launch titles are at best mediocre.
who can tell what will be in a years time but right now it seems an unattractive proposition.
i have a playstation 2 and a fairly decent collection of games which i play (although to be honest, when i do have a bash with a game it tends to be on my pc where i've got loads of stuff on my emulators and pc games which consoles just don't do that well), to be honest, the nintendo wii seems to be more fun, i'm not really one for eye candy so although the games on the ps3 look impressive a lot of what i've seen in the uk release lineup is nothing which i can't get on the ps2 gameplay wise.
but like i said, i'll take another look when the price drops and see what the games are like then. i'll keep an open mind.
i'm so glad i never purchased a psp when they came out, to this day i can't say there is a single game i'd actually pay for to play.

Personally I'd rather get an Xbox 360 than a PS3. Sure, the console might be less powerful, but there are actually a few titles I wouldn't mind getting. On top of that the console's cheaper.
As far as the portable market goes I prefer my laptop -- trading battery life for the level of games I can play isn't too much to ask.

And don't forget, it's an entertainment centre... photos, high definition movies (Blu-ray), music, and you can connect your iPod to it... an awesome machine I have to say.
The graphic is so realistic (based on this morning's Sunrise).
Since I am not a gamer, so I am not getting it.

And the exact same thing same thing can be said about the Xbox 360, only substituting Blu-ray for HD-DVD. |
The 360 can't work with the iPod, but it can work with other MP3 players like the Zune, PlaysForSure devices, and even Palm (using Pocket Tunes) and Windows Mobile handhelds.
You can connect to the iPod and play regular songs (i.e. those that you get off a CD), though you can't play back DRMed songs like those you get from the iTunes Music Store, since Apple's FairPlay isn't open for implementation.

The PS3 is one awesome piece of work. They've got Blu-Ray in every unit. The cell processor, awesome graphics etc. The Xbox 360 is pretty awesome too. I think it'll be interesting in seeing whether including Blu-Ray in every unit pays off for Sony in the long run.
I could see myself buying either a PS3 or an Xbox 360 right around the time Grand Theft Auto IV is due out. (Hopefully... they'll have trimmed the prices on those consoles a bit by then!)

The day is coming.
Anyway, the price of PlayStation 3 is clearly unfair.
Japan is the cheapest place to buy PS3 at equivalent of US$412.
PlayStation 3 is on sale at the States for US$599.
As for "rest of the world",
It's about US$799 in Europe, and approximately US$ 840 in the UK and New Zealand.
And in Australia? AU$999 is about US$ 785.

 | Agreed. | I know you can afford US$799.
Well, when you test drive PlayStation 3 in Myer (department store), and there are kids laughing at your driving skill... you know you would not buy that game console. That happened to me yesterday.
BTW, I have two full driver licences. And the kids who laughed at me do not seem to have reached their legal driving age.

Just a gentle reminder, many computer shops and game stores will open at midnight tonight for the sale of PlayStation 3.

had a walk around my local town centre today and there is plenty of stock, not one of the big names (game, gamestation, hmv) were sold out, they all had signs in the windows indicating 'limited stock'.
some bundles were inching up to £550 with various games and addons and although i'm not adversted to taking a one-off hit with a high price for the console itself, £50 for one of the top title games is harder to swallow. i think i'll be using my sega megadrive emulators for my dosage of game related fun for some time yet.
but motorstorm does *look* great.

News from iTWire (Australia), "AU$20 million worth of Sony PS3 product walks out of retail stores in Australia during the midnight launch."
AU$20 million is about 20 thousand units of PlayStation 3 (take AU$1000 for each unit). But that does not take into account of games, HDMI cables and other PS3 peripherals.
Danny Zarka, the first person who purchased Sony PlayStation 3 in Australia, said, "“If you love games and movies, why wouldn’t you buy a PLAYSTATION 3?"
Somehow, I just can't justify the cost.

Thinking about it, I built this PC with the express purpose to play games. Anything else I do my old Pentium 4 would do fine. I've spent more than $1000 AUD on this system. For that much I could have had a PS3 with it's Blu-Ray capabilities
