I can install and open all the NS browsers except 7.1 and 7.2. When I try to open 7.1 or 7.2 all they do is BLINK, nothing else. What could be the problem? Thank You, Al

The problem most likely is the Gecko Runtime Environment (GRE). You will need to reinstall Netscape 7.2/7.2, SeaMonkey, and Mozilla, if all are installed. Ensure that new GRE files are created.

First:
Uninstall Netscape 7.1/7.2, using Add/Remove Programs.
Uninstall SeaMonkey and/or Mozilla, if installed
Next:
Delete the C:\Program Files\Common Files\mozilla.org\GRE folder
Delete the C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape folder, and all its contents
Delete the C:\Program Files\mozilla.org\SeaMonkey folder if it exists
Delete the C:\Program Files\mozilla.org\Mozilla folder if it exists
(save your Plugins folder, if you wish, to a backup location)

REBOOT YOUR PC

With your antivirus program disabled and all programs closed, reinstall Netscape 7.1/7.2 using an offline installer.

The problem may be with 7.1. When you uninstall 7.1, you will be offered to uninstall 7.2. Just go ahead, following Ramona's suggestions.
I, actually, did not know that it was, even possible to run 7.2 with 7.1 still present, although it may be possible if the two programs are installed in separate folders, and used with separate profiles. Uninstalling will not affect the profiles.

I can't find the posting right now, but I saw one here and it said to delete a certain file in the NS folder. I located the file and deleted it.
After I did that I reinstalled 7.2 it now opens the way it should. I still don't have any of my old emails. I did find a "sent file" that is 17,585 KB and "inbox file" that has 4,594 KB and when I try to open them the window comes up to choose a program to open it. I can see the files that have been created since this all started and there's very little in those. My question is how do I access those old files? Thank You Al

Al,

Open the files in Notepad or WordPad, and with Netscape/Quick Launch closed.

You are most likely referring to the MSF files in the Mail Account folder. Your Mail should be available, unless you created a new Profile?

Open Netscape Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings | Server Settings
Scroll down to the "Local directory" field
Compare the path with that of your Mail Account folder, which contains the mail you referenced. If it is different, then change the path in Server Settings, by clicking on the "Browse" button in Netscape 7.2, and locate the appropriate folder.

In Netscape 7.1, there is no "Browse" button, so you will have to copy the path in Windows Explorer, to the Local directory field, e.g.,

C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profile_name\*.slt\Mail\pop.isp_name.net

The files just say "inbox file" -- "sent file" -- "saved file", no extension, no other designation. I can read and get all my recent mail, I'm just trying to recover the old mail from the last 3 years that somehow got lost or something. Al

Al,

Ensure that you have enabled Windows to view hidden/system files:
These files are hidden by default.
To see hidden files:
1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
2. Click the View tab
3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders
4. Disable "Hide File Extensions for Known Files."
5. Click OK.
To search for files in the Application Data folder, go to Start | Search.
Under More Advanced Options select Search system folders, Search Hidden Files and folders, and Search subfolders.

When you view your Mail Account folder do you have folders similar to this:
pop.ispname.net
pop.ispname-1.net
pop.ispname-2.net

If so, then the folder that doesn't have a digit will be your original Mail folder. That's where you will need to copy your mail files and paste them into the new installation, as described below:

To consolidate the original mail into your new installation:

Close Netscape:
Open the Mail Account folder where you found the files with mail in them
Rename the files: OldInbox, OldSent, etc.
Copy the renamed files to the Mail Account folder in the new installation
When you open Netscape, the renamed files will appear

I never saw mail files with "file" included. Where are the files which you mention? Are they in the path listed by Ramona? I don't think so. Where did this mail come from?

Here's where I found the files, -- "Documents and Settings", "HP Administrater", "Application Data", "Mozilla", "Profiles", (under profiles are), "default", "Default User", and "rosehill", (my email name), then, "etlbea3b.slt", "mail", "mail.mw.centuryte.net" Under the two defaults there are no files like the ones found under "rosehill", and yhey have no file ext name. Most people have one profile, with a single .slt folder, which has, in turn, all the personal info.
You could, conceivably have a Default User profile, but any other profile must be created by the user, i.e. you. You should have pairs of files like Inbox and Inbox.msf, etc. in all folders where mail was set up, at one time or other. mail.mw.centurytel.net is equivalent, more or less to the pop.ispname.net of Ramona. It seems that that's where is your mail.
Any work in Windows Explorer should be done with the program closed.

Would it help to see a picture? I'm not sure if I should include one. Please advise. Al
