Apple has announced that Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard will go on sale Friday, 26 October at 6:00 p.m. Leopard is packed with more than 300 new features and introduces a brand new desktop with Stacks, a new way to easily access files from the Dock; a redesigned Finder that lets users quickly browse and share files between multiple Macs; Quick Look, a new way to instantly see files without opening an application; Spaces, an intuitive new feature used to create groups of applications and instantly switch between them; and Time Machine, an effortless way to automatically back up everything on a Mac.

Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard requires a minimum of 512MB of RAM and runs on Intel or PowerPC G5 or G4 (867 MHz or faster) based Macs. Detailed system requirement is available at Leopard Tech Specs page.

Leopard will be available on 26th October, with a suggested retail price at US$129 for a single user license, or US$ 129 for a household five-user license. The standard Mac OS Up-To-Date upgrade package is available to all customers who purchased a qualifying new Mac system from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after October 1, 2007 for a shipping and handling fee of US$9.95.

Mac OS X Server Leopard is also available on 26th October with a suggested retail price of US$499 for a 10-client edition and US$999 for an unlimited-client edition.

Speaking of pricing. The US price stays the same (US$129 single license and US$199 for family pack). Apple Pty Ltd (Australia) has adjusted the price to reflect the strong Aussie dollar.

For Mac OS X Tiger, the price was AU$ 199 for single user license
now, Mac OS X Leopard, the price is AU$ 158 (single user license) AU$249 (family pack)

I ordered by copy of Mac OS X v.10.5 Leopard today from Academy Store (Apple Premium Reseller). I will pick it up 6pm this Friday, and hope that I can get some freebies.
