VMware has announced the release and immediate availability of VMware Fusion 1.1 , the first major update since its release in August this year, and with Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard support.
VMware Fusion 1.1 also improved support for Microsoft Windows 3D graphics with experimental support for DirectX 9.0. While DirectX 3D graphics is supported, it does not yet support shaders.
Similar to Parallels Desktop for Mac, VMware Fusion 1.1 supports using Windows Vista Boot Camp partitions as virtual machines, added find and search support for Windows Start menu items, and can display the Windows Start menu and task bar via Unity. A beta version of VMware Importer is also available, allowing users to import Parallels Desktop 2.5 and 3.0 virtual systems. For more detail, please refer to VMWare Fusion Release Notes .
minimum system requirement:
- An Intel-based Mac (to run 64-bit operating systems, an Intel Mac with a Core 2 Duo or Xeon processor is required)
- 512MB of RAM (1 GB or more recommended)1
- 275MB free disk space for VMware Fusion
- 1GB free disk space for each virtual machine (10 GB or more recommended)
- Mac OS X version 10.4.9 or later
The final version is available for US$79.99 ($20 online rebate is currently available). A 30-day trial is also available.

Meanwhile, Parallels updated Parallels Desktop 3 to build 5540 with Leopard support on 30 October.
