I'm glad that Netscape is bringing back their mail client, though to be honest I'd still have preferred the old-fashioned all-in-one design.

Now I see what people mean when they say that installations like Messenger9, Tb, etc. fail to do.
Settings are imported, but no mail folders, nor the entire folder which is found in TB (I imported settings from an unused TB folder). I first had to enter all the passwords, but no mail was downloaded until I restarted Messenger. And, only mail which was still on server.
I, then went to the profile from which settings were imported, and copied a couple of files, and pasted them in the correct place. No Sent mail was imported, but all six address books were imported ok. In every way Messenger works fine.
By the way, I have to use the Get Mail Plus add-on to open Messenger in Navigator 9. Scroll down to Get Mail Plus to get to it.

I have yet to have any major problems with NSM9. It imported every email I've gotten since I allowed POP in my Gmail, and all the messages transferred perfectly (which was a problem as I had 220-something emails).

Splash addon predictably doesn't work properly, but meh. Oh, and does NSM have a default splash screen?

I don't see the splash screen when launching Netscape Messenger. However, you can call up the "About Netscape Messenger" if you want to.

Curious, so for those who have launched this alpha program. Did you get all your boxes (i.e. Inbox, Sent, Drafts, Trash and so forth)? Did it import your messages? Did it import all of your settings?

From my previous comment:
Quote:

I, then went to the profile from which settings were imported, and copied a couple of files, and pasted them in the correct place. No Sent mail was imported, but all six address books were imported ok.

Now, I heard that people who first set up Thunderbird got the settings, but not the folders. I had no experience with that, as I, always, set up brand new accounts, and got my mail which was on server. This time I went through the same process that was followed by other people, and found that no mail was imported, although the settings were. This has nothing to do with Messenger being alpha. Everything was ok after I saved the passwords, and downloaded mail on server. As for older mail, I had to rename the Inbox, and copy the renamed file, and paste it in the appropriate folder. I may be wrong but I saw the same behavior with Thunderbird.
I think that there are a few posts to this effect.
Now, if anyone set up Thunderbird, and got all folders, with its mail, I will have to say that it may have something to do with NS9MS being alpha.
The fact remains that while mail from NS4.x, Outlook, Outlook Express, and Eudora can be imported, NS6/7, Mozilla, Seamonkey, and Thunderbird cannot be imported.
I, even, sent a feedback to Netscape, saying that it would make NS9MS superior if it could import everything with one keystroke.

Interesting. It certainly doesn't inspire me to know that I would essentially have to make new folders (where the heck are they?) and still not have my mail brought over. No way, Fulvio. If this is what they're offering, why on earth would I accept it? I have Thunderbird. It does it all without this mess so why bother? When they get it fixed (which is what I said in the first place when I remarked that it is an alpha program meaning it is unfinished and therefore buggy)... then I will consider installing it.

However, I'm glad for guys like you who will blaze the trail for cowards like me. When it's all fixed... let me know! lol

I must say i really like the interface on it . It imported my Eudora messages ok but didn't import the address book , but i was able to import that also separately with the import function once i found out what the eudora nickname extension was . This could become my new mail client.

Three times? You mean you installed and uninstalled.. installed and uninstalled... installed.... in order to get an alpha program working? Unbelievable! I mean... I'm actually flabbergasted that someone would trust an alpha program that took three installations to deliver their e-mail. My e-mail is relatively important to me. I've no intentions of entrusting an alpha program with that responsibility. I guess... different strokes for different folks.

All the best.

James,
I respect your mistrust of alphas, and, whatever "hansh" said is not clear, but I would have little interest in it. What I found, on importing the setting was that the folders were there, but empty. After entering my passwords all mail on server was downloaded. Then when I copied the renamed files of the folders from the profile from which they should have been imported, and pasted them into the Messenger respective folders. It was a nuisance since I have eight or nine addresses to contend with, but no worse than the way I have been dealing with before, when I created accounts anew, and then copy/pasted the renamed files.
Considering that I have Thunderbird, Eudora b1, NS7.2, and two Seamonkeys, all with separate profiles, I have backups galore. And, what do I have to lose? I was importing settings, and later files from an unused profile (it belonged to TB1.5. I created a new profile for 2.0x). Of course, if you have your mail in just one location, it is reasonable that you would be afraid. I would be afraid even without working with an alpha.
From what I see the behavior of Messenger, alpha or not, is perfectly normal.

No, not installed and uninstalled but installed and again.
Use it now and I like it.
Testing it with sending mail but not any problem from a crash or so.

hansh,
this is the part that I don't understand.
Quote:
but installed and again.

Do you mean that you close the program and, then reopened it three times, and all the mail showed up? As I said, I had all my settings for mail, but there were no passwords. After entering the passwords of my eight accounts, mail which was on server appeared immediately. I chose to do things this way. All the old mail was obtained from renamed files
(Inbox2 instead of Inbox) to prevent overwriting.

Fulvio,

No, first time I istalled the program, open it... no folders, close the program.
Delete it NOT from me computer, but installed it again
Second time...no folders, thirt time I see the folders.

I use it with two accounts what I have importeerd from Thunderbird to
Netscape Messenger, all the settings, mail and passwords. One home-account
and one for me work.
Testing it today again with sending and receive mail, but not any problem.
