My Firefox browser just notified me of the upgrade available to version 2.0.0.14. I installed the upgrade and checked the version number was indeed at 2.0.0.14.
Right at this moment (5:42 PM, Eastern Time USA, 4/16/2008) this version was placed for download at Mozilla Download (English, Windows) . The release notes mention a security fix, but the link for this does not, at this moment, list the exact fix. I expect that info to be up shortly.

The one fix listed now shows up and is quoted below.

What is this "garbage collection"? One major problem noticed after the update, for me at least, is the absence of right click|copy, and, probably paste.
Now, it works. Oh, well. Ignore me.

Does the Wikipedia link below help? I'm still quite fuzzy on the concept of "garbage collection."

Thanks for the link. I found myself dozing off, after attempting to read the article. Ok, I trust them. But where are the other garbage collectors? Like Seamonkey, etc. It may be a potentially serious problem, but to dedicate an entire new version to it, does not compute.

I have the same feeling about SM - being more than a bit afraid that it is getting too hard to keep up. On the other hand, perhaps the development team just didn't like the FF 2.0.0. version number with 13 in it and cleaned that version up

Does anyone know why the downloads end at 4gig, the last several updates of Firefox have not fixed this ?

Do you mean that you try to download a very large file, and it goes only as far as 4gigs? I have never seen such a monster, so, I don't understand your problem.
Now, if your download history combines to 4Gb, it may be a different story. But, there is no reason to keep the history, which was a problem with Netscape and Mozilla.
I have no idea what your problem is.

It rather may have something to do with the file system you use than the browser.
FAT32 can not handle files larger than 4 Gb.
Only if your file system is NTFS, I'd have a hard time explaining why this exceptional large download went wrong.
How to find out what file system you use?
Open Windows Explorer (Windows key + E).
"Right click" the drive letter you wanted to download to and choose "Properties".
On the pop up you can see what file system your system is using for that drive.

The file system is a FAT 32, using xp, the file is a dvd version of KNOPPIX about 4.2g
( http://www.knoppix.org/ )
is there any 'work around' for this problem? without going to the NTFS file system?

Eh, do you happen to have a external USB drive that is NTFS formatted?
That would be the quickest way to make this download work for you.
If you want to use Knoppix, or any other Linux flavor in combination with that XP Home system, you would (initially) want to work with FAT32 file systems anyway.
PS: have been looking at Knoppix... Almost can't believe that that download is 4Gb. It should be much smaller...!?

If the usb drive idea works, I'd sure prefer it over reformatting other drives, I'll see what the stores have.
