Apple has updated Boot Camp to version 2.1 for Windows XP and both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows Vista. Despite the Vista-oriented version of two of the updates, the patch notes specify that the update is intended to support Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3).
Apple's website noted that “Installation of Boot Camp 2.1 is required before installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3)”.
Boot Camp is Apple's solution for installing and running Windows on Mac, allowing owners of Intel-based Macs to install and boot Windows XP or Windows Vista alongside Mac OS X. Unlike virtualisation solutions (e.g. Parallels Desktop, VMware Fusion), Apple's solution requires users to reboot machines to switch from one operating system to another.
Boot Camp beta was first released on 5th April 2006 , and the final version was released with Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" last year.
There are three version of Boot Camp Update 2.1 available:
Boot Camp Update 2.1 for Windows XP (215MB)
Boot Camp Update 2.1 for Vista 32 (228MB)
Boot Camp Update 2.1 for Vista 64 (236MB)
For more information about Boot Camp, please visit Boot Camp (Apple Boot Camp page).
