Does anyone know of a messenger program that supports AIM, MSN and ICQ for Mac OS 9.2? Trillian, Gaim, Miranda and Fire don't run on it.

Thanks! ^_^

Well, I don't know any cheater IM programmes around. Personally I against those cheater IMs.

Why I don't like those cheater IMs?
They break my security setting.
They generate spams.
They are communicate with others in a very unfair stand.

Well, I suppose I actually agree with you in a way. It gets anoying for others when they can't use all the functions with me that they can with others. But, I just don't like having four programs open at once --- maybe I'll get used to it.

I don't think that gaim, Fire, Trillian, or Kopete are cheating. They simply provide the different IM services in one package.

I agree with Josh. But if say MSN didn't want Trillian to use MSN anymore, all they need to do is send a letter to them, telling them to stop. If they don't - they can legally be sued. I don't think being sued by someone as huge as Time Warner or Microsoft would be very good, especially for a small company like the guys that make Trillian, or open source groups that create Gaim etc.

I did not name the particular cheating IMs.

* People use cheater IM can add me to their list without my knowing, but I have to request.
* They can see me online even when I am in invisible mode.
* Some can even see my IP address.

And what do you call those non-official IM can break the ground rules (unfair advantage) and have more features (particularly spying features) than official IM?

^^ Not necessarily, some "cheeter IMs" have more features, such as Miranda.

I didn't say you did. I took the phrase "cheater IM" to mean multi-IM clients such as what I named before. I *did not* say they were cheating.

I believe the official IM clients and the various multi-IM clients share these two features.

I think you are thinking if how the IMs are transmitted on the various protocols. What do clients have to do with this?

If you feel that a multi-IM is spying on you, file a bug with the developers of the client in question. What multi-IM client have you seen that does the spying behavors? I would like to see it. I don't see the multi-IM clients as cheating; instead I see them as convience.

Good.

Let me tell you an example (true).
To add someone to my ICQ list, I can simply add my friend to my contact list. My friend will receive a notification about being added.
If my friend chooses to have "authorisation on," I will need to request. He then can deny my request, (i.e. I can't add him to my ICQ contact list).

Now, with one of the popular "cheater IMs" users can add anyone as they wish.
This translates to...
* My authorisation has been ignored. Arrow I can't stop them adding me.
* I don't even know I've been added to their list. Arrow I won't be informed.

So, people like me using the official or authorised application are just stupid? Putting myself into unfair disadvantage?
Users of those "cheater IMs" are surely proud of such illegal abilities.

Those "cheater IMs" simply break the security of IM, communicate with unfair advantage. I believe I've justified the word "cheater".

And I have to sacrifice my security/privacy for someone's convenience?

Okay, back to your question.

The answer is not for OS 9 but OS X.
Proteus 3, it supports AIM, ICQ, IRC, MSN and Yahoo!

Yeah, another "cheater IM."

Disclaimer
SillyDog701 do NOT encourse users to use any non-official IM software, a number of those non-official IM softwares use un-authorised communication channel and users' security settings are threatened.

SillyDog701 urges everyone communicate (via IM) with each other fairly and respect other people's security/privacy prefereneces.

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind for when I upgrade to OS X. I've also found one called Fire for OS X.

Antony, you have made you views very clear about so called "cheater" IM apps. But what is your view of a website called meebo.com which combines all the main IM services without the need to install any extra software?

I don't call those IMs cheating now, but I still consider them as 'unfair'. Personally, I don't like those, and I don't really trust those services. But if it works for you, and if you are not worried about your privacy/security, by all means, such services do have their merits.
