Windows version: After three launches, the Bookmarks finally appeared in the Sidebar! It also took close to 20 minutes to install this under Windows, and this is on a K-6 2/500 MHz system with 1/2 Gb of RAM!
Linux version: Just like version 7.02, which was the first Linux version of Netscape I used, the footers do not print. Installation time under Linux: less than 2 minutes on a Pentium-MMX/166.

In final build the SkyPilot theme is now working (version 1.9i). I noticed interesting behaviour regardind webmail:
After logging in Netscape says, that can not connect to imap.mail.netcenter.com . But, just after two seconds when you press on the Inbox folder all mail is there and everything is normal.

An interesting twist...
Linux version:
When printing a page in Landscape mode, the footers print, but the headers do not.
It would be nice if printing were bug-tested before releasing.

I have installed Netscape 7.1 on a Linux box.
No problem at all except I can't use the Java Plugin (gcc problem and another problem with an old Java plugin)
No improvement concerning the delay to start Netscape 7.1 in comparison of Netscape 7.02, but the browser seems to be more responsive.
Some bugs were fixed.

Windows Me - no problems at all, runs faster than 7.0.x
Windows XP Profesional - same improvements as those noticed in Windows Me
Linux - loading speed similar to that of 7.0.x, but once Navigator was loaded it was more responsive than 7.0.x

Not sure if this is just me,
Secured connection (SSL), aka https connections, are extremely slow with Netscape 7.1. Sometimes too slow to work. (I have problem paying my bills over NS 7.1, but no problem with IE6 which of course was not my first choice.)
Netscape 7.02 did not experience such problem.
Anyone use secured connection often?

Anyone seeing any problem with the browser hanging when you open the mail client while the browser is open ? I'm seeing this on ME and never saw any problem with version 7.02 . Any known fixes ?

Greetings,
I upgraded from Netscape 7.01 Streamline to Netscape 7.1 Streamline last night (Fri. 9/27/2003).
So far so good... 
My profile/settings, email, bookmarks, address book are all accessible.
Glad to have the spam filter.
Did not notice any slowdown using Secure Socket Layer (SSL).
Browser and email client are working well together.

The Sun Java 2 included in Netscape 7.1 (official release build) has following interesting things.
The Java component is actually called "jre140_02i.exe", zipped into "jre140_02i.zip"
However, it has following references...

IMHO, Netscape 7.1, as good a browser suite as it is, was a bit rushed. Aside from the fact that
the (now unemployed or re-assigned) Netscape employees on the AOL payroll, wanted to get
a new Netscape release out the door, before AOL locked the door and threw away the key, I
think what is now available to download as Netscape 7.1 was originally intended (by the
now former Netscape developers) to be Netscape 7.1 Preview Release 1.
If you download the online installer of Netscape 7.1, and use it to download your own choice of
components, have a look at the "config.ini" file. There are a number of references to "7.1b1",
minus the quotes which is what would've been added to the end of the useragent string, to
denote that it's a preview release (or beta version). Since the decision had more than likely
already been made by AOL, to kill off the Netscape browser, the Netscape devs didn't want
to make it immediately obvious that v7.1, the last ever major Netscape release, was in fact
a beta version, so the UA string was appended with "Netscape/7.1" to make it appear to be
a "gold" release, as opposed to "Netscape/7.1b1", had it been released as a preview release.
Had AOL not decided to disband the Netscape browser division when they did (or at the very
least delayed the cancellation of all future Netscape browser development, until the end of
the year) the actual full release of Netscape 7.1 may have been built upon Mozilla 1.4.1.
That way, Netscape 7.1 (final) wouldn't have had the serious GDI resource leak issue on
machines running Windows 98, and perhaps the Print Preview feature wouldn't have
caused so many problems with the Linux version of the browser suite.

I was curious how the e-mail would look like minus the obligatory anti-AOL rants. I quoted the revised version.
I know that this is something which has bothered a lot of people, but it is hard to make any sense out of an otherwise useful message, rants included. I got the the message, and I am with you, but please use some restraint.
