03 Jan, 2004 1:22 am biased media - Aussie Crocodile hunter Steve Irwin |
[sdp=24132] |
|
Australia's famous Steve Irwin, best known for his Crocodile TV shows, he held his baby son in one hand while feeding crocodiles in the other hand.
Irwin 'hurt' by baby stunt outcry (News.com.au)
Local media was on his side. My first reaction, news media was not kind to superstar, king of pop, Mr Michael Jackson showing his baby to public on a hotel balcony.

IMO, that was an extremely stupid thing to do with such a young baby. Same goes for MJ's baby dangling stunt.

The media was clearly on Irwin's side, trying to help him explain. But never on Michael Jackson's side. Of course Michael Jackson explained as well.
Ananova's Crocodile hunter Steve slammed over baby stunt report showed a better coverage of the same issue.
Also, Australia media gave World Idol winner Kurt Nilsen very bad names.

Steve Irwin is a 'bloody idiot', nothing more to it. Dicko could have given out nicer comments to Kurt, I agree.

Yesterday (Saturday)'s headline in all major media in Australia was this Steve Irwin baby risky business. Basically I don't need to post anything about this, but all local media were trying to help Steve Irwin to explain his action. More portions of the news reports were on Steve's interview (which I skipped most of them).
Very unfair media attitudes compared to Michael Jackson's holding-up-baby, showing-to-the public issue.
He is now threatening the public?

This hit the UK headlines, too.
The coverage shown was neither sympathetic nor attacking; it just compared him to Michael Jackson.
You know what us English guys are like. We just tut, murmur something like "eccentric bloody idiot" and get on with our lives

A BBC News report .
Please note, Michael Jackson apologised for his baby-showing action.
Steve Irwin did not apologise, but defended his action.

| Quote: | Steve Irwin outraged child welfare groups after cradling one-month-old Robert a metre away from the reptile during a show at his Queensland zoo.
Michael Jackson apologised for his baby-showing action. |
Seems to me these people will do anything for publicity.
They are also "money mad."

Steve Irwin is a total idiot, he tried to 'defend' his actions which were totally wrong. What Michael Jackson did was wrong, but the did apologise for his actions, and I respect him for that.

Local news network (7 News) said Steve Irwin was now explaining to US viewers he was professional, and his actions were perfectly right.
Seems to me, Australian media helped broadcast his "defence" wasn't enough for Steve Irwin.
Also, he seems very unhappy about public opinion. Prince Charles cannot even control public opinions. Or is Steve Irwin trying to teach the world, holding a baby 1 metre away from a 4 metre crocodile is perfectly safe?

The Australian has a nice feature on Steve Irwin's Baby Bob and the Croc refusing to apologise issue, Who's snappy now? (10 Jan 2004)
...
Crocodile-handlers have been mauled by their animals. Experienced handler Graham Freeman from north Queensland died in 1994 after a croc turned on him, took him in a roll and crushed his skull. More recently, Irwin's right-hand man Wes Mannion narrowly escaped death at Australia Zoo in 2001, when he and Irwin were clearing storm debris from crocodile enclosures late at night. A 3.5m croc latched on to Mannion from the back of the knee to the hip. Irwin saved the day but Mannion required 150 stitches.
...
It's just that the act is overtaking the man. It may be time for the Crocodile Hunter to evolve into a more well-rounded man, someone who occasionally wears a T-shirt instead of khakis and now and again admits he's wrong. As publicist Harry M. Miller advised after the event: "He should say: 'It's a dumb-ass thing to do. I'll never do it again.' And then shut up."

Crude, but it gets the point across, in total agreement with that statement.

Steve Irwin once again told us holding a baby 1 metre away from a 4 metre crocodile is perfectly save.
Irwin still sore over croc horror (News.com.au) Nice picture included in that article.

Antony:
He is a sick man if he thinks it's alright to hold a baby so close to
a crocodile. He's sore now because he probably isn't making as much money. I would have been horrified to see that at a show.
It surely was a Horror Show. There is something wrong with these people that will risk their childrens lives to make money.
Why didn't he just put his head where his baby was if it was so safe!
